| Rewatching the Akatsuki Invasion mini-arc from when Jiraya and Naruto are looking for Tsunade, it got me thinking about how Kakashi fell so easily for Itachi's Tskuyomi in their fight, Kakashi is supposed to already have the Mangekyou, even if he isn't shown using it. Sasuke with a normal Sharingan is much better at countering Itachi's genjutsu in their fight, even taking into account a sick and slightly blind Itachi. Could Kakashi actually not have known about his MS since he fainted after Rin's death, and that he actually learned about it and how to use it because of this particular fight with Itachi? Or he just didn't have full control and never bothered to train with it because of the physical strain that puts on his body. That fight with Itachi was the last one we get to see Kakashi on a mission or an enemy encounter, until the Akatsuki captured Gaara and we see Kakashi using the Kamui for the first time against Deidara, it looked like Kakashi had started training with the MS really recently, aka his last encounter with Itachi a couple of years earlier, that even plays into how confident he was against fake Itachi. |

| That's a cool theory, I've never thought of this before Imo both the options are possible. Like with Sasuke: he got his Sharingan during the massacre, but learned of it/was able to use it only much later at the Naruto Bridge. Both Sasuke and Kakashi passed out while awakening their Sharingan/MS and got traumatized back then, so it's really likely they didn't know about its existence. Kakashi even in one panel called his Mangekyo "new Sharingan" (during the fight with Deidara), what, I guess, may be a proof. |
