A bit of a disappointment, all told. The titular character is above all else a complete git, in ways that have nothing to do with either overpowered or being overly cautious. The main character recognises this but somehow is clearly falling for him anyway...

And I don't know if it's the translator or the original writer but the text is probably the worst light novel I've come across at creating any sort of mood, atmosphere or emotions for a scene.

There's also the fact that the basic formula of this series seems to be "bad guy tells hero how to beat them, hero does that in a cocky and self-confident manner using something he bought or made in advance, then says he didn't need to be told afterwards". Why can't he be allowed to actually figure stuff out for himself? And why does all the caution disappear when it actually comes to the fight? Okay, this latter one is explained but it makes for a worse story.

A bit of a shame, really, as the concept is a good one, and I do like the twists that this S-rank world is throwing at us, as well as the idea that it is the very fact that the hero is cautious that enables him to pass through these situations. Rista makes an interesting and somewhat different narrator, too.

I'm currently undecided as to whether I want to continue with this or not.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.
