Hmm....this time I'll say Gurren Lagann. Could be a chance that you like it. Over-the-top, bizzare, whacky, intense with hammy comedy blended with high-octane mecha action. And a fair number of cute girls too. ;)
"There's no such thing as a painless lesson, they just don't exist. Sacrifices are necessary. You can't gain anything without losing something first. Although if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made full-metal."
(Unlike Steins;Gate, it didn't take a simple mystery way + harem route, nor did it conform to the masses with a "satisfying" happy ending. It's definitely not as accessible and coherent as the former, since it doesn't explain too much about quantum mechanics and the like, therefore demands a bit more thinking + imagination. I, however, will always side with the one that takes more risks and did not plan itself out properly. It's already in your PTW I see - I'd say go for it)
@ for Ed @345EdwardElric Because I'm not at that age anymore + read the manga ;)

MAL is a far cry from being my main literature site, that's why I won't be doing mere single chapter updates anymore. Manga- aka Baka-Updates + 2 French ones are miles better and more thorough/complete + less restricting. The latter are perfectly suited for Manga/Light Novel/Books collectors such as myself. Less stressful/tiring this way. -g-
Why didn't you finish the Beyblade series? You should I guess.

I noticed you already watched jojo's but its on hold, so I highly recommend that you continue at least till the end of part 2, I also recommend that you watch Black clover I starts off much more generic than other anime but it's well worth the wait

Give it a shot, I have a feeling that you'll love it given your taste. ;)

(It is very long, unoriginal, repetitive, and accomplishes _nothing_. It uses fanservice, juvenile boob jokes/metaphors, and has an extremely large fan base that likes to call it the best of its kind - including your beloved FMA:B/HxH. Pretty much all of its characters are bland, the drama is awful. One of the most terrible written series I know of. Why I mention it? Because you're fond of Akame ga Kill!, which has a few similar traits, although not being as lighthearted in comparison.
The ecchiness makes it slightly less annoying because now you know, you don't have to concentrate or take anything seriously. Highest recommendation)
@345EdwardElric Why do you so often overexplain/justify things with amounts of, mostly unnecessary, text in an oversensitive way? Why did you also mention that it's in your PTW list? I was already aware of that and don't quite understand why it's important. The only important thing is that you didn't watch it yet, right?
And by the way, for the umpteenth time: Shōnen isn't a genre, and I know of Akame ga Kill!'s adaption, which I often criticized for the extremely onesided, juvenile way it presented its questionable morals.

You do realize that I have Fairy Tail in my PTW, right?
Also one of the major reasons I love Akame Ga Kill! is because it takes a very different approach compared to many other shounen anime and actually dares to kill of a vast majority of its main cast, unlike many other battle-shounen where characters just manage to survive from impossible situations via some crazy ass-pulls.
This would rather explain my views on that imfamous series very well:
It has a very grand premise, great tsundere badass females with strong personalities/character depth, cool and intense action characterized by well executed fights, moments with strong emotional appeal, basically everything in a nutshell a shounen anime can offer.
From what I have heard from several people in many reviews of the show I read, the anime actually deviated from the manga at episode 19 onwards....which is the primary reason I hear behind so many people disliking/having gripes with the show. Tatsumi's death comes as really unexpected suddenly given what was indicated throughout the majority of the show and the promises he made about surviving the whole ordeal to Akame and co.....plus the fact that Tatsumi was portrayed as a protagonist throughout the majority of the show and Akame suddenly turning protagonist in the final part of the climax + ending was something which many people found as a cop-out....but TBH the unexpected turn during the climax + ending is what made me really emotional and sad; in a standard shounen you don't really expect main cast to die one after another, but this show not only took a different turn but also did enough to make us care about the characters as they died, via their compelling/strong personalities which were explored quite well, their backstories + the strong group dynamics within Night Raid ---> the deaths of Sheele, Mine and Tatsumi honestly hit me quite hard n fact; their dying moments moment were in fact, really really emotional after how the show had established their characters and purpose, it's very hard not to feel for them.
The way the show upheld the question of "to kill or not to kill" and gave emphasis on what can be gained from killing and bloodshed, brutal deaths in the greater scheme of things was pretty profoundly depicted overall and more importantly, the show was pretty much always on point while emphasizing this core message throughout.
Often, in several other shounen anime, when an MC is in a dying situation, then often manage to come back to life via some sudden plot-twist, gained power-ups, or they come back to life after dying via some supernatural phenomenon/overcome a seemingly mortal injury via some DEM. With Akame ga Kill, it's different, many times. Here, once you're dead, you're dead. I know several anime where, when someone dies, but I don't feel sad after a certain point, not because I'm not attached to the character, but because I'm just so confused; (even in anime which are not shounen like Steins;Gate stuff like where a death incident is avoided/reverted many times via time travel/travelling to a different timeline happen) ...I just kind of assume that they come back somehow because everyone always manages to come back to life one way or another. Here, by the time I realize that no, they're actually dead, it's kind of more of a shock than sadness, which is the main reason the death moments appealed to me in this show more than several other shows....this show doesn't hesitate to kill of the characters for the sake of a better tomorrow, for the greater good....the plot and story actually advances here via all the deaths of several people. This is where the significance of death here is so much more compared to several other action-packed gory shows.
I know that the manga ending is a lot different that the anime of course given so many people have gripes with the anime ending ----> the manga ending is more like a typical shounen anime ending. I personally do prefer a happy ending where the MC's live happily after going through a journey full of struggles, pain and suffering, like it's the case in anime(s) like FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, or Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works.....but tragic endings can also make you deeply feel emotionally if done well, which I got in this anime. I would have loved to see an ending like in the manga where Mine and Tatsumi got a happy ending like Edward/Winry in FMA:B, but nevertheless Mine and Tatsumi's dying moments in the anime really made me feel TBH. In short, these is one of the very few anime I've seen where each and every death had so much of a purpose, where you feel like a rooting for a character not to die and survive. and yet after their death come to realize how important his/her death was in the greater scheme of things.

(From the same writer of Baccano!. The major differences are that the cast is still full of eccentrics, yet with a lot more Bishōnen, + the plot shares more "Shōnen" characteristics, and is overall more consistent most of the time. In other words not necessarily better, but less "confusing". It is so to say the dorky half-brother who somehow gained more popularity and sales due to Fujoshi bait. -g-
Still good fun including many awesome speeches from my favorite Russian Guy. The sequels are mediocre/bad tbh, as the pacing is oftentimes all over the place, with chapters either left out or wrongly placed, which made it quite disjointed. Like always: If you like it, read the light novel)
