| This one was hard to me...it was between Edward, Yusuke, Kenshin and Yoh. Edward won only because of the 2003 ending, it showcases how far he was willing to go to get his brother back Joe Yabuki from Ashita no Joe should be here...hes the best |

| Shinji from Eva has to be the most compelling shounen protagonist by quite a long way. If you're talking about likeable characters, maybe Chio-chan from Azumanga Daioh. Though Osaka is better. |

| luffy it's the ideal shonen protagonist for me, there is also sora (kh), killua, tanjiro ,asta or zenitsu though but yeah luffy still unreachable... |

| I really just don't like or care about most of Shounen protagonists ever. Gintoki pretty much deserve to destroy the competition. I love Light as well but I usually forget to consider him a Shounen protagonist |

| The fact that Gintama's anime has far fewer members than the shows in which a lot of these protagonists belong does not stop gintoki from dominating this poll (or even being in top 12 of most favorited characters on this site) |
