Looking for romance titles (anime or manga) that have nothing in the way of love rivals (obviously this includes triangles and harem antics also please for the love of god no harem tags) or even has characters that could be rivals to the relationship. Just looking for some good one on one romance where relationship progression is shown (confession -> dating -> other milestones) and doesn’t cut off when they get together. Nothing like Takagi-san as that has no proper dating progression whatsoever, most shoujo titles will not fit either as even the most vanilla ones such as Ore Monogatari have love rivals at some point. Most genre mixes are fine just no mecha or tragedy. Yuri is fine, Yaoi isn't. Check my lists for what I have and haven't already seen, if I've watched the anime for something safe assumption I've already considered reading the manga.

Thanks

Orange is kind of a stretch, cus it kinda involves different world lines where MC takes different paths so no rivals per se. Still a good rec.

Highschool DxD is SUPER Harem but it is PRETTY obvious who the MC is going to go for, the harem is basically there for Fanservice. I would understand why u wouldn't give it a shot though so I'll go over more recs.

Spice and wolf, romance isn't the main part. Very SoL and couple have great chemistry.

Durarara and Devilman cry baby maybe?
C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control is a good one too.

first of all . gotta thank you for ur list . it helped me add stuff to as we watch similar stuff .
it is hard to come up with something that you haven't watched . but I know a couple that I forgot their names but they are botch old (before 2007 I think )

I will tell you as soon as I get the name .
if you have nothing to watch in the mean time . try the fruit of grisaia . it is similar to stuff you rated high in ur list. ( just ignore the very minimal fanservice in the first season) as the second and third season are the real deal

I think Bakuman should be what you are looking for.

Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou should also be fitting though the anime only has one season so this might be a contender when it comes to reading the manga. Since I've only seen the anime I don't know if a rival is involved later in the story.

Fune wo Amu is the last I'd recommend.

I recommend all 3 wholeheartedly but Bakuman is the one I think is probably the best fit.

Orange from what you've mentioned sounds eerily familiar to an omnibus series. A series with multiple potential romance conclusions throughout the course of it. If my rating of Amagami SS is anything to go by, I really dislike the omnibus format precisely because there are multiple romance conclusions. What I'm looking for are series where its very clear cut that there is only a single possibility for a relationship. MC and FMC get together and stay together.

Similar point to above, harem tags are out completely. Ships are shit, there shouldn't be the possibility for any outside interference. No one else should be forcing themselves on either of the individuals in the relationship.

Spice and Wolf I've seen already, been on my list for ages now.

The next 3 aren't tagged as romance at all. Nor are there any mention of relationships when looking at any of the character pages. How solid are the relationships between the main pairing of each of these series and how much screentime does their relationships progression get? After all I am looking for romance titles that show relationship progression, not just series that happen to have a couple but rarely get featured.

Erased I was told to avoid by a friend specifically for the romance element. Was told that the MC and FMC do not get together so there was no point me watching it if that was what I was after.

After the absolute farce that was people recommending me Koibana Onsen after insisting that 'while it has a harem tag, it's not actually a harem' when I specifically stated that I am not at all looking for harem series I think I'll skip Fruit of Grisaia. I'm looking for what could only be described as the polar opposite of harem titles, literally zero interest from any of the other female characters ever. No one else developing feelings for either the MC or FMC at all.

Golden Time has been on my list as seen for ages though it doesn't really fit anyway, Linda creates quite the large love triangle.

Plastic Memories again already on my list, but also doesn't fit because it has a tragic ending which in my post I'm not looking.

Paradise Kiss, haven't heard of before. Shoujo/Josei titles are always somewhat dodgy when it comes to meeting my criteria though, they always seem to find some way to include some other male or female character that is sowhat interested in creating rival drama for the main pairing. Additionally, some (not all) have pretty boy type male leads that are way more forceful than I'd like. Maid-sama, Say I love you etc.

Darn, you really stumped me lol. Maybe tatami galaxy?

SNAFU has the late confession type tropes, but characters are very similar to one of ur favorites, reLIFE so yeah.

Akatsuki no Yona is a reverse harem but kinda like DxD (not in an ecchi way) cus is pretty obvious who the MC is going to go for.

Highscore girl is a great show but you might get turned off but the unorthodox animation style. BEST OP ive ever heard and I've seen quite few.

Anime:

Horimiya, have read 90 chapters of the manga. Starts out pretty well but devolves to becoming just a slice of life with no direction.

Konbini Kareshii, would prefer just a one on one romance as my post suggests rather than multiple different relationships getting focus but seems interesting enough.

Major, not a fan of really long running shounen titles. The longest series I've watched had 75 episodes and my attention span would likely prefer it stayed that way.

Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji, character summaries on wikipedia seem to suggest there is indeed a love triangle or at the very least a love rival.

Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara, seems like it could be good but not exactly what I'm after. Looking more for a developing relationship rather than a developed one.

Seikaisuru Kado, romance focus?

Manga:

100-mankai no Suki o Ager, almost no information on this might read a chapter or two as a trial but really not fond of shoujo/josei as they love including love rivals as much as possible to screw with everything.

Ao-chan can't study, was under the impression this was closer to a slice of life but if it has proper relationship progression then I'll give it a go.

Do Chokkyuu Kareshi x Kanojo & Fechippuru, thanks for reminding me that I have indeed already read these. If I'm not mistaken the first had a small love rival but because of the nature of the characters it was a non issue.

Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai, again sceptical that this won't turn into a love rival drama given that it is shoujo and it's not completed.

Honey come Honey, tagged with 'love rival/s' on mangaupdates.

I'm in Love with you Forever, similar concern to Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara,

I'm Around 30 and Finally in Love, again thanks for reminding me of something else I'm already up to date with.

Love on the Job, mangaupdates tagged with 'cheating/infidelity'?

My Perfect Girlfriend, on my list already not bad bit the girl can be a bit of a cunt.

My Pink is Overflowing, same concern as Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai.

ReRe Hello, same concern as Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai.

Tonari wa Nani o Kuu Hito zo, seems interesting feel like I've looked into it before though. Will have to double check.

You got me, Senpai, tagged 'love triangle/s' on mangaupdates.

KADO: not really, but it surprisingly has more romance than it initially leads on

100-mankai no Suki o Ageru - Come to think of it I think there were some jealousy in the 1st chapter but it got resolved pretty fast. Considering you don't even want developed relationships at the start, then ignore that one

Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai - Will it turn? Maybe. Has it turned? Not as far as I can recall

Honey come Honey - idk what kind of love rivals they're talking about afaik, unless they're referring to further past the translations

Love on the Job - again, mangaupdates makes no sense. If you remember 'You are Dirty, my Queen' the "cheating" is the same thing as that (although progresses to a lesser stage), even has the same conclusion like it did in that

My Perfect Girlfriend - that's true

My Pink is Overflowing - This one I highly doubt will include a love triangle in it given the nature of the characters, but one can never know

ReRe Hello - I was skeptical putting this one in cause I feel like there was a love triangle situation, but it was pretty maturely handled so it didn't really drag on or anything

Tonari wa Nani o Kuu Hito zo - This is probably the best recommendation I can make for this. Especially the sequel almost every chapter they kiss and have sex in the extra chapters

You got me, Senpai - Again i don't even know where mangaupdates got that idea. Even if there was, it'd be so insignificant to actually care about it (similar case to Horimiya then). This honestly has one of the perfect fits for your requirement, 'Just looking for some good one on one romance where relationship progression is shown (confession -> dating -> other milestones) and doesn’t cut off when they get together.'

Honestly speaking though, I think you're better off looking for ones that can have love triangles, but dealt with maturely (i.e., not dragging on misunderstandings for a bajillion chapters), for instance, Risouteki Boyfriend. Most stories with absolutely 0 love triangles in them you won't really find much development to them lol

The more I hear about Bakuman the more I'm convinced it's not what I'm after, simply reading character summaries seems to suggest that the main pairing is apart (proximity wise) for a decent portion of the story. Not really into the whole long distance relationship thing as it just doesn't give nearly enough time for the couple to grow and develop their relationship together. Instead relies on smaller moments that happen infrequently.

As for the second recommendation, if my score of Mahoraba is anything to go by I absolutely hate apartment complex type stories. While sure you might get some relationship progression, it almost always ends up focusing on its large cast of characters rather than just the MC and FMC. What I'm looking for is a story that focuses on just the main pairing not every side character as soon as they have a problem (Clannad s1, Monogatari, Bunny girl senpai, literally anything that introduces then focuses on side characters).

Third recommendation, seems interesting but no indication that there is any focus at all on the relationships progression. How much of a focus is there put on the progression of their relationship? Confession -> Dating -> Beyond

I really don't think I'm being picky at all with that verdict. She is very clearly a love rival. As I see it my post asks there are 3 romance requirements, no harems, a harem may be defined as a manga where 3 or more female love rivals exist. Second, no love triangles, a love triangle is where there are 2 love rivals that the MC considers and makes a conscious decision between, Lastly and most broad, no love rivals, a love rival which is any character that competes for the affection of either of the main pairing regardless of whether acknowledged or not.

In Love on the Job, that other character is very very clearly a love rival as even though he doesn't consider her, she is still competing for his affection. That was my criteria all along, and those are the types of recommendations I'm looking for. They do exist and there are a decent amount of them, refer to the following list, almost everything tagged NLR fits what I'm after (some aren't updated to reflect the latest chapter releases if a rival exists in later chapters). There isn't an insignificant amount of titles and there are almost no shoujo/josei titles.

Thing is though, you're also looking for ones that have progression/development to them, so that more or less excludes ~5/10 chapter shorts like Hiren Trip or Kimi ga Kirai na Koi no Hanashi(since they usually end at confession although the latter has an implied sex scene) and most fluff ones like No Guard Wife and That Girl is Not Just Cute, which just showcases couples doing cute things (unless that's what you're looking for?).

Fair enough for LotJ, I personally never found the love triangle to be a bother since he never really cared for it anyway, but ok

As for the Reddit list, idk what kind of list you were looking at, there's clearly a good amount of shoujo/josei NLR. It's also kinda inconsistent with its NLR tags, idk how long it has been since last updated. Horimiya, for instance, had a love rival in the beginning and had a love triangle with some of the characters midway through. Tsurezure Children also has a love triangle as one of its stories. Nande Koko ni Sensei ga and Do Chokkyuu don't have any love rivals, yet are not listed as so. Similar case with Marry Me!.

There isn't an insignificant amount of titles and there are almost no shoujo/josei titles.

https://www.reddit.com/r/manga/wiki/u/shellshock321

I'll admit that list can be somewhat inconsistent, but it's right far more than it's wrong. At least a 75% accuracy. Are you sure we are looking at the same list though? There are definitely not a decent amount of shoujo/josei titles tagged NLR, for the fun of it I went and counted (obviously my counting may be up to a few off). Of 118 titles tagged NLR, only 9 of them are either Shoujo or Josei. 9 out of 118 is definitely not a significant amount, that's less than 10% of the NLR tagged titles.

I'm quite certain that you're just trolling with that list.

Ao Haru Ride. Not suitable, very clearly a love triangle.

Devils Line. Never heard of it, who's the main pairing, when do they get together and how much focus is the romance given?

Giniro no Kami no Agito. Is this a proper romance with dating between the main pairing?

Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai. Just a tragedy, post says no tragedies.

Kokurikozaka kara. Dating and relationship progression?

Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho. Dating and relationship progression?

RahXephon. Just a mecha, post says no mecha.

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. Just a tragedy, post says no tragedies.

Suzuka. You're joking right? Very obvious love triangle.

Umi ga Kikoeru. Love triangle, no love triangles.

Wo Shi Jiang Xiaobai. Love triangle?
