I watched it, because I am really curious about what were the hallmarks of the Erotic Josei boom. Morizono Milk's manga were the soul of this short-lived movement, apparently, being very popular among the young woman's demographic. My expectations were very low, but even then I still feel ripped off of the time I gave it. If Morizono's raunchy romcoms were the top of the basket, I don't want to imagine what's in the bottom. I guess some love starved women were really desperate for proxy spicy romance, during the rise of OAV age. It wouldn't surprise me, if the fad died off, because the target audience had realized how repetitive and uninspired it was all along. Either this, or Otome games stole the thunder, offering a vastly more fulfilling experience.
Milky Passion uncannily reflects "Junk Boy". Except the protagonist is female, she dreams of working for a love hotel instead of a men magazine's editorial board, isn't the proactive harrasser and the whole crap isn't animated by Madhouse. Yeah, it's your usual self-insert wet fantasy, except gender flipped. There is not even an interesting porno chic artistic caution to save it. It's just predictably self indulgent while being goofy and yet unfunny. The characters are all paper thin archetypes, with no exception. Bleh. The only saving grace of this anime is my dawg, Shiozawa Kaneto. His unique voice would even make a sopping wet towel ooze with carefree charisma. I am sure the love hotel setting can be done justice with an enticing production concept, but this anime certainly doesn't pull it.
By the way, didn't know that Sega had a home video distribution department, it took me aback. |
