Play the trails series mate, it's the best JRPG series of all time. Persona? Doesn't even compare, Famous JRPG's like Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest? Yeah nah. Massive triple A western titles like Witcher 3, Skyrim or Fallout? Even those can't compete.

Seconding the Trails series, it’s also my favorite JRPG series of all time, but Persona, DQ and FF are still great as well.

@Cneq that might be stretching things a bit

haha I still stand by it. If you look at the series as a whole (instead of 9 different games) nothing can even compete with it (which should be the way you view it since most "sequels" are just parts of the bigger picture, you can really see this in CS3 and probably CS4 as well)

btw my opinion is only on story/world building. The combat is still good though (especially in CS3)

Yeah if looked at in it's entirety, it's better than other JRPG series like DQ or FF that have quite a few lackluster games spread throughout. I would put Persona 5 above any Trails game, but any Trails game above Persona 3 or 4. As a series it's my favorite, but if looked at individually they are not without their own flaws (like how most games in the series end with a cliffhanger, the repetitive exploration of FC to SC or the archetypal character cliches in Cold Steel).

Still my favorite JRPG series because of the depth of character relationships and the amount of different unique NPC dialogue and lore is impressive (more so in Trails in the Sky), offering a more immersive experience than any other RPG series I've played. As far as the battle system goes, I haven't played CSIII or IV yet, but I like the battle system of the first two CS games, although I still prefer the battle system of the previous games since there's more strategy involved.

Shogo: Mobile Armor Division is a FPS games heavily inspired from Mecha anime developed by the same studio that did F.E.A.R. Give that one a go if you're into something kinda quirky.

Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 are great.
I also recommend Tales of the Abyss, Graces f, Xillia, Xillia 2, Symphonia, Symphonia 2, Berseria, Vesperia, and Eternia. Star Ocean Second Evolution on psp is great. In terms of fighting games Blazeblue and Guilty Gear series are great.

I second this one. Shogo was one of my childhood games I put several hours into. If you want to get it working on modern systems you can either get the GOG version or if you have the CD you'll need to:
>Extract the Game, Data, and Movies folders from the CD (it can't be "installed" in the traditional sense since it's a 16-bit installer that 64-bit OSs don't support)
>Install patch 2.214 (GOG already has it on their version)
>Install the widescreen patch and activate it in the launcher

Works great for me in Windows 7 64 bit

More like hack 'n' slash, beat em up, or musou, but I appreciate you mentioning the series.

Also, four days late, but:

Don't know if this is the right thread for this. But what's the Attack on Titan game where you can play as your own character and interact with the cast characters? I think it was on 3DS (And I'm not talking about the Humanity in Chains one, it was released after that.) I have a PS Vita but Attack on Titan 2 wasn't released on that in my region.

Since you mentioned KurtzPel and MMORPGs I want to say Elsword... but I'm not sure if I'd recommend that. Maybe check it out if you haven't yet.

I would highly recommend the Ys series on pc, origin, ark of napishtim and oath in felghana being the best games in the series for me and all released initially around that time, origin coming in 2008 despite releasing much earlier in Japan.
