| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- Volume 3, Chapter 5: This chapter felt off. I don't know how much if any of it was due to the translation, but it was hard to follow, pulled a fake mystery, and relied a great deal on convenience. I also dislike how the epilogue contains the actual conclusion of the story; that's not what an epilogue is supposed to be. This chapter was trying to be too clever by half in the suspected betrayals and the actual betrayals. It would have been better if Ilenia actually betrayed them. The impact that suspecting it had on Myuri was great, and how Myuri would have dealt with the future confrontation would be a great growing moment. Instead, Isuna Hasekura tried to have his cake and eat it too. "[Eve Boland] was a true-to-life miser, but she was not a bad person." This is the most egregious line in the entire novel. Eve almost killed Lawrence in Volume 4, and she actually did kill someone in Volume 11. She is the representation of what happens when someone sacrifices everything, to include their soul, for the sake of money. She is not a good person. The only defense I can think of is that Col didn't know. He only entered Spice & Wolf at Volume 5, so Lawrence and Holo may not have told him about the knife attack. Volume 11 is also a side story that only Eve knows the truth about. Col might have said that statement out of ignorance and or his naivete. |
