I'm bumping this thread. I want to get into this franchise, but seeing how there is a longer live action adaptation, I'm hesitating before watching the animated series. On the other hand, season 3 of the animated series has been announced.

Which in your opinion is better? Which is more faithful to the source? What about cut content?

@KuroNekoAlchemy
I personally like the novel the most then the audio drama then manhua/donghua then live action.
Most faithful to the novel is the audio drama then manhua then donghua/live action.

The donghua and live action have the most cut/changed scenes.

Though if you're starting this series you could watch the donghua or read the manhua first so you can see how the characters look like. I don't recommend watching the live action first since some of the changes are quite different from the novel.

Looks like last year I wrote a post comparing them: https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1836965#msg59744972

Skip the live action. Those dorama don't have anything worthwhile in them other than pretty faces. My tolerance for dorama cheesiness is quite low, but if you are into Japanese or Korean dorama romcoms, you may enjoy some of it. It's still a vastly inferior adaptation when compared with the animation and the audio drama.

The donghua is more faithful than the live action drama. The live action cuts less stuff out, but also changes the story and rearranges some events. It adds yin metal as a plot macguffin. And it adds more screentime to the girls, Wen Qing, Jiang Yanli, and Mianmian. I don't mind this latter change since the original has a small role for women.

The drama (The Untamed) is very slow, with most scenes taking longer than they need to. You'll need a lot of free time to watch it. The actors are great though, and you can read a lot more expression off the actors' faces than from animation. The action sequences are much worse than in the donghua, which is kinda expected for a show with powerful magic and monsters. On the other hand, the sets are absolutely gorgeous. The various clan estates are jawdroppingly awesome.
