| I don't remember her early work even if I've read some, but I don't see Urusei Yatsura anywhere on your manga list, that's her best manga imo (the anime suffer from old age however) |

| Byt the thread title I was expecting some discussion on pre-Yatsura works, guess I was wrong. If you haven't checked her 80's output, by no means do indulge yourself on them. In my opinion, her best era and the time she became one of the most successful mangakas too. Her works really influenced a lot of manga and anime since then and gave the back bone to a lot of stuff that came afterwards. Maison Ikkoku is my favourite. If you like Takahashi take on romance and comedy and woud like to see it in a slice of life type of environment, this is the place to go. Urusei Yatsura was huge in the 80's, is a big series. So I'd recommend people to read it /watch it in slow doses so that the characters and comedy grow on the viewer. Ranma follows the fantasy romance comedy style of Urusei and definitelly a recommendation too. Her short stories and the Mermaid saga are definitely underrated hidden jewels of her. All around great stuff, everything is worth checking though. But really depend of your tolerance for older styles of manga designs, if you are ok with that you're in for a treat. |
