Note: This thread compiles all the suggestions from the Suggestions thread, separated into three main categories: suggestions that have been approved (and instated), suggestions that are approved but are pending implement, and suggestions which have been permanently rejected (reasoning included). The purpose of this list is to avoid having repeated suggestions in the mother thread. Having to sift through the same suggestions over is a waste of time, which means we are less productive. As such, please read the whole list before suggesting anything in the main thread. Suggestions that are already on this list or are similar to them will be deleted without notice.

PENDING SUGGESTIONS
The following suggestions have either been greenlit by the administrators or are awaiting greenlight via polling; afterward, they will be presented to Deividas and await his approval. Depending on the result, they will be moved to the top or bottom post.
.

— manga counterparts for the following achievements: GAR, Historical, Slice of Life, Shorts (One-Shots);
— an achievement based on the number of movies the user has watched.
— an achievement based on having completed a certain percentage of anime that do not have any of the following genres: Action, Comedy, Romance, School, Slice of Life.
— progress for the achievements in which the user has not yet attained the first level, displayed as a progress bar with a lock badge;
— mismatches on the main page will also show volume numbers too and not only chapters;
— button for hiding the 20 recommendations on top of the Recommendations page.
— having a "class" next to your username, based on your favorite genre from the Favorites section;
— the legend for the Favorite Types pie chart would also open the title list on click, like clicking on the pie slice itself does;
— the manga Favorites section will have a table with Magazines, like the anime one has Studios;
— a column for differences (standard deviations) for the Mean and Weighted scores in the Favorites tab, similar to that provided in the List tab for individual titles;
— the mirrored rating chart (one that contains both anime and manga) will now have an option to color the anime and manga halves separately;

REJECTED SUGGESTIONS
The following suggestions have been rejected; brief reasoning for this is given under each.
Our decision is not up for discussion. Any further comments on this will be deleted without notice.

.

ACHIEVEMENTS BASED ON THE FOLLOWING GENRES/THEMES:

— Action, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, School, Sci-Fi, Shounen/Shoujo/Seinen/Josei, Supernatural.
reason: sans josei, all of them enjoy a lot of prevalence and popularity. You could argue shoujo is a much more minor genre; however as we are denying shounen and seinen, we are also denying what can be seen as their direct counterparts for the sake of fairness (and so people won't whine "but you made achievements for these!!! so why not for these???").

— Martial Arts, Military, Police, Super Power, Yaoi/Yuri, Shoujo Ai/Shounen Ai.
reason: insufficient material to build an achievement around.

— Based on a Novel, Bizarre, Cyberpunk, Food, Gangster, Gothic, Happy/Sad Ending, Hero, Immortality, Isekai, Loli, Moe, Monsters, Ninja, Nobunaga, Otaku, Pirates, Political, Post-Apocalyptic, RPG, Samurai, Survival, Tokusatsu, Tsundere, War;
reason: a multitude, actually. Most of these are a matter of taste, and as such not exactly deserving of an achievement; moreover, many present insufficient material or would require a custom list to be compiled before we could even think about implementing them.

— Manga achievement for the Gender Bender genre.
reason: a taste-related niche; most commonly found in hentai, which many people don't bother adding to their lists. As such, it is pointless.

— An achievement built around "notoriously queer" anime series.
reason: what constitutes a LGBTQA+ series is highly subjective, making the custom list required for this very difficult to piece.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR WATCHING AWARD-WINNING ANIME/MANGA.
reason: not only is this extremely specific, it is also a bit pointless. Most of these titles have enjoyed incredible popularity, which makes it redundant.

AN ACHIEVEMENT GIVEN FOR WATCHING/READING ALL 50 STATIC RECOMMENDATIONS.
reason: these recommendations are purely optional; not only is the list a legacy of the old graph, but most of the titles contained within are actually series that aren't strictly speaking uncommon or rarities. Rather, they're the kind of stuff that'd help you dip your feet better in the waters of the medium. So while we won't give ya an achievement for doin' them, I guess you may have this pat on the back.

ACHIEVEMENTS BASED ON A SPECIFIC SERIES/FRANCHISE/STUDIO/DIRECTOR/AUTHOR/VA/ETC.
reason: no series/studio/person gets a special treatment; should one be approved, demands will come for more and more, thus making achievements lose their purpose. Moreover, series which are popular and well-known do not deserve a specific achievement all of their own, as they are basically every effin' where and there's a good chance you watched them just to see what the fuss is all about if nothing else.

ACHIEVEMENTS BASED ON THE NUMBER OF FORUM POSTS, PROFILE COMMENTS, AND FRIENDS A USER HAS.
reason: these numbers are personal statistics and take little to no time to increase. Ergo, it's pointless.

AN ACHIEVEMENT BASED ON WHETHER OR NOT THE USER HAS FILLED ALL TEN SLOTS IN ALL FOUR FAVORITES CATEGORIES.
reason: again, personal statistics that take zero effort.

SCORE RELATED ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE FOLLOWING:

— watching/reading the worst scored anime/manga in the database;
reason: we're already rewarding voluntary masochism with the no-drop achievements.

— for watching/reading anime/manga with mean score under 6;
reason: ditto above. Also: as score is highly subjective, one man's trash might be another man's treasure, so to speak; if we were to reward masochism, this would only make it that much more pointless.

— for having the user's average score per year decrease with passing years;
reason: twofold. One, for the elitists out there - it's good that you're taking pride in your "critical thinking", but for us it's not really an achievement. How'd ya feel if we started rewarding people with perfect 10 averages? Two, for the minority of others - it's sad that you're losing hope in the medium, but perhaps if you have "matured" in this direction so drastically, it's time to call it quits.

— an achievement for scoring/not scoring a certain percentage of anime/manga on your list;
reason: this is pretty pointless. It'd also be somewhat difficult to implement.

— an achievement for having a high standard deviation in your scores.
reason: ditto above.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR WATCHING/READING A NUMBER OF THE TOP POPULAR ENTRIES IN THE DATABASE.
reason: it's popular specifically because most people have seen it and liked it. Thus, it takes no effort and is not worthy of an achievement. Not to mention that it would require a dynamic list, as these things tend to change with almost every new season.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR DROPPING A LARGE NUMBER OF ANIME/MANGA.
reason: we commend the determination of those that stick it out and refuse to drop things that are downright awful or taking a toll on them; it's not sane, but it's admirable in a sense. So why should we commend you for not doing anything?

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR WATCHING A LOT OF ANIME WITH UNDER 12 EPISODES.
reason: most of those titles count toward the Shorts achievement, which makes it redundant.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR READING A LOT OF 4-KOMA MANGA.
reason: would require custom list; also, rather easy.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR WATCHING/READING CROSSOVERS OF ANIME/MANGA.
reason: overspecific; would require custom list; possibly insufficient material to allow the user freedom of choice when trying to achieve it.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR WATCHING SERIES REFERENCED WITHIN ANOTHER SERIES.
reason: while the idea itself is interesting, this has quite a lot of problems. First, it would require a custom and extremely specific list. Compiling this list is nigh-impossible; there are a lot of series who reference others, sometimes by the dozen, often in an obscure manner. It would require too much time and a lot of nitpicking, so we have chosen to reject it.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR WATCHING ANIME BASED ON MANGA / READING MANGA BASED ON ANIME.
reason: way too easy, as this is the case for most series out there.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR WATCHING ALL OF THE SERIES WITHIN ONE SEASON/ONE YEAR.
reason: somewhat restrictive; further, while it is not necessarily easy, it is ridiculously easy to bypass by simply watching older anime (dated early 1900s) when the output of anime per season and year was far smaller.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR WATCHING ANIME AS THEY ARE STILL AIRING.
reason: this would require the users to specify start/end dates, which most of the people don't do. This makes it rather pointless.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR COMPLETING AT LEAST ONE ANIME OF EACH GENRE.
reason: too easy.

ACHIEVEMENTS BASED ON THE AGE RATINGS OF ANIME (eg. G, T, R).
reason: this is a matter of taste; someone who enjoys, let's say, the Action genre will automatically have a spiked percentage in higher ratings. It is both very user-specific and easy to achieve, so we're not going to do anything centered around them.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR WATCHING/READING CHINESE AND KOREAN SERIES.
reason: being created outside of Japan does not grant them a special status; not to mention that the number of entries within the database is insufficient to begin with.

ADDING Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä TO THE GHIBLI ACHIEVEMENT.
reason: the movie was created before the studio Ghibli was officially established, which unfortunately means it is not a Ghibli movie per say.

REMOVING THE GHIBLI ACHIEVEMENT ALTOGETHER.
reason: we have received complaints for keeping it while simultaneously denying other specific studio-related achievements. The reason behind our particular wish to keep it is simple: many people have found a lot of meaning in Miyazaki's magic. It is true that many of the studio's movies enjoy a lot of popularity (particularly Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away), but this does not take away from their value.

If anything, their masterful realization is a prime example of what can be achieved through the medium. As such, view it as an encouraging nudge for people to go and watch it and see that there is more to those "chino cartoons" than bouncy tits.

A MANGA VS. ANIME TYPE OF ACHIEVEMENT.
reason: threefold - first, it feels a bit like shaming someone for having a medium preference; second, it would be extremely difficult to implement. Third, we have, in the past, expressed our stance as being against mixing manga and anime in this way when creating achievements.

AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR ATTAINING THE 4th LEVEL IN ALL FOUR-LEVEL ACHIEVEMENTS.
reason: impossible to implement.

FILLING THE BAR FOR THE PERVERT ACHIEVEMENT EQUAL TO THE PERCENTAGE THE USER HAS.
reason: impossible to implement.

SUGGESTIONS RELATED TO SITE FUNCTIONS:

— Having a separate table for people (directors, voice actors, character designers etc.) in the Favorites section.
reason: too difficult to implement.

— A filter/option to hide studios with 1~5 entries in the "Favorite Studios" section of the Favorites tab to avoid "cluttering".
reason: a pointless implement. The most this would accomplish is a shortening of the page, which is rather short to begin with.

— Placing the "missing titles" section under a different tab instead of Recommended.
reason: a minor, pointless change.

— Separating the rating graphs by type (ie. TV, OVA, etc.)
reason: a minor, pointless change.

— Grouping anime into franchises in the Favorites tab.
reason: pointless implement; they are already grouped as such in the main tab.

— Implementing a compatibility function that would let you find users of the highest compatibility.
reason: a pointless implement that requires too many server resources. Why pointless? Because MAL automatically displays your compatibility when you're on a user's profile, and furthermore, as the very suggester pointed out, there's already a website (animeadvice) that does this (allows you to find users of the highest compatibility) for you. If you're so keen on this function, visit it. The graph is not a dating service.

— A tracker for the watch/read history, counting the number of episodes/titles recorded within a given period of time.
reason: would require too many server resources while also being an unreliable function. Many people are infrequent updaters, and most do not record start/end dates, so we have no fallback for it.

— A tracker for the amount of hours spent watching anime per month.
reason: overspecific and rather pointless; we already keep track of the number of titles.
