help with movie maker

Hi can anyone help with this error message?

The file C:\Program Files\BitLord\Downloads\Green.Lantern.First.Flight.2009.BRRip.XviD.AC3-KiNGS\Green.Lantern.First.Flight.2009.BRRip.XviD.AC3-KiNGS.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again

I did what it says but the codec still wont download. i am trying to import from VLC. does anyone know how to do this or if there a movie maker I can Download where I can use VLC files

Hm..whenever I get this message, I just download a different file, or use a video converter to change it to a .WMV format.
