You want to make MAL better, so I think you could add a Quotes section to anime pages. IMDB has that and I think MAL could have too.
Someone suggested that before, in 2009. In 2009. But back in 2009, MAL wasn't what it is now. Having a a Quotes section is very important because animes are full of memorable lines. They are a big characteristic of the genre. And you want to have a detailed database, right? So why not add a section for that stuff?

This is a great idea mate, I hope that the MAL staff implement this in the future.

I think it could be a nice addition. One quote could help me decide a bit better on if I want to watch.

I'm not too familiar with the IMDB system but I guess the big difference with MAL would be that all quotes would need to be translated, whereas on IMDB I assume most quotes come from English language films and can be just copied directly. So yeah, how would you approach this? Should the translations come from the licensed releases or should the moderators compare different fansub releases and use their own judgement to choose which is the best?

IMDB quotes are translated to english. You can see that on movies like Downfall.

Here they could leave them in japanese and then add the translation from a fansub. Then add a button to report if the translation is not correct or at least allow people to create posts about translation errors somewhere on the forum. If the translation is not correct, someone will probably complain about it. Also, episode titles are written in japanese and then translated to english.

And quotes could have a "Did you find it interesting?" rate like IMDB does. It could use the same system reviews had before (helpful/not helpful). Here you just choose if you found it interesting or not and then it will show a " # people found this interesting" message.

And my suggestion would be applied not only on anime pages but also on manga pages, because mangas obviously have memorable lines too.

I'd say leave it in Japanese and put the translation right next to it... Doesn't really matter how the translation is structured as long as it means the same thing, right?

The anime pages are cluttered enough. This wouldn't help.

Oh, I like this idea. I also check quotes in IMDb...

Maybe MAL can a have Quotes tab? But I'm not sure how it can fit here:
Details Characters & Staff Episodes Videos Stats Reviews Recommendations Interest Stacks News Forum Clubs Pictures More Info

Perhaps a Quotes section under the More Info tab can be added instead.

The suggestion above by rodryguezzz sounds good.

Anyhow, I just add quotes and annotations in my Notes/More.
