| MyAnimeList does have an API, but it doesn't provide character data: http://myanimelist.net/modules.php?go=api AniList has that, but it's probably not the thing you're looking for: https://anilist-api.readthedocs.org/en/latest/characters.html AniDB provides some character information along with their gender.
