| I'd like to get into the Black Jack franchise, but I really do not know where it would be a good place to start. I know that there is a new Black Jack series coming out somewhere in 2015, but in general I do not know where to start with this franchise. | The majority of the series is episodic so it really doesn't matter. But the order I would say is Black TV Specials then the show, then basically any series after that. |

| This is the order I watched it: Black Jack (TV) - Black Jack (TV): Lost Episodes Black Jack 21 Black Jack: Futari no Kuroi Isha (Movie) Black Jack the Movie Black Jack (OVA) Young Black Jack (I actually watched YBJ first but that's because I didn't really know much about Black Jack). The lost episodes contains episode 3 of Black Jack (TV) which didn't air due to an earthquake so you can watch it after episode 2 of the TV series if you want along with the other episode which I think is just a special. The two movies are optional but worth a watch. As for watching the TV series first rather than the OVA, since the TV series is longer and more light hearted I'd say it's the better choice to check out first. The OVA series is much darker and more similar to the prequel, Young Black Jack, so it would be a better transition to go from TV -> Sequel -> OVA -> Prequel. The reason I'd recommend checking out the prequel last is because it feels different than the rest due to it being in a different time period during Black Jack's days as a college student. I suppose you could also go Prequel -> OVA -> TV -> Sequel although I still feel like you'd get the best out of the OVAs after watching the TV series first. |
