taizai or daizai

I'm pretty sure 大罪 should be pronounced daizai, not taizai...(the spin off: Mayoe! Nanatsu no Daizai Gakuen! is written daizai...)

Why is it taizai here? is there some rule on pronunciation that I don't know? (not that I know a lot...)

It would be nice if I can get an answer, since I'm interested in learning japanese...
