Are you a hedonist?
| Hedonism: the rampant, and inordinate pursuit of pleasure above all else. It seems to me more and more that society as a whole is spiraling downwards into the Epicurean abyss. It's out of control. No one has any honor or morality any more. "If it feels good, do it" - and consequence be damned. Do you feel the same way? Do you think that society's pursuit of pleasure is getting out of hand? Are there negative consequences to living a lifestyle of hedonism? Are you a hedonist? If so, does that fact bother you? Do you try to change, or do you let your pleasures lead you through the nose? Discuss. |

| People are selfish, its pretty normal I am selfish, but not to the point of what your talking about. I think this goes along with everyone being in such a hurry( to get somewhere to please them-selves) they aren't looking at anything in there path. Driving, Biking and even going for a walk is hard when everyone is always in such a hurry I have to YIELD to cars on my bicycle!!!! I don't agree with that stuff I kind of do whatever I want regardless of what most people are doing. |

| My understanding of hedonism is that it strives to maximize net pleasure; meaning that it seeks to increase pleasure and also reduce pain, so it does take into account if an action causes more harm than good in the process, or "consequences" as the OP wants to call it. In that sense, I would consider myself a hedonist to a large extent. Being a hedonist doesn't mean it's OK to engage in any kind of short-term pleasurable activities at the expense of long-term negative consequences, because the pain would eventually outweigh the pleasure. |
