I came across many members on MAL who aren't familiar with Vbulletin forum software despite the software being in the market since I believe 2001. Like not knowing that Vb uses a CKeditor which makes posting better than using bbcode markups.

This is a CKEditor http://ckeditor.com/demo (I wish MAL would integrate CKEditor here, it would make posting much easier and prevent spam bots as well btw)

For those who are familiar with it, what is your through between VB 4.x and 5.x ? Although Vb 5.x is currently in beta, I see many improvements that could be applied to it.

On the side note, here are few improvements I've sent to VB's Jira for redesign & improvements.

vBulletin is awesome. If this forum were running on it...ohh how things would be different.

Topic moved.
This'll probably find more discussion here. Unfortunately I have no idea about this so I'll stay out of it. :)

I know a few discussion boards that use it and so far it seems to be a pretty decent software.
However, I'm not familiar with it on a deeper, technical basis.

As long as the bbcode doesn't automatically underline or make words bold or I can disable that feature, it's convenient since you could just mark the part and click on the "B" or "U" or some boards might even have key combinations such as Ctrl+B for bold text and Ctrl+U for underlined text. But if I were to accidentally miss a word and had to mark the whole highlighted text to disable the bbcode and then had to mark the old highlighted text plus the new word, then I'd rather just have to cut only the ending tag ([*/b] or [*/u] for example) and paste it one word further.

Well, I don't know how much it costs, but it's not for free. Also, there is too much to question in case this forums section would actually become more popular than the rest of the site.

edit: didn't think that only [*/b] without "*" would vanish here.

I haven't used it since 2005 but it was the shit, I know nothing about the newer versions so I can't really make any arguments.

Its where I spent my forum time the most.

Can't tell about new improvements though, just saying I'm someone who used it

CKeditor is for free :) as long as it is not for profite use, i.e., for instance Vbulletin use it and pay a fee because they are selling a software but if you own a site for fun and not profiting from selling the CKeditor as part of your software, you're free to use it and implemented on your site. In this case, MAL can implement CKeditor here for free.
