| This was a better episode with more dialogue and backstory. I took a lot of notes. Akira bear reference? Andre the Giant lantern posse Why do anime people always carry around loved one's heads? I love the flip pfones! Ninja Ninja was hilarious when he was swinging from that pillar and talking about sex The scene where Afro killed the guy in the brothel and then puked after was legit. He chose a certain road and has to deal with his choice. I agree with the dojo master. The lemonade scene was the best, so sweet and touching. The scene with the kids fighting was well done and showed how they could use trickery and cunning to get by. I felt bad for the little girl with the bear. Okiku was that girl I guess. They were hinting at it, but they didn't explain why or anything. That was sort of weird. She was a traitor of course, and I wanted to know more about her. Depictions of women are, so far, kind of not great. For example, Okiku dies as a "woman in the refrigerator" with blood running down her breast. What does that blood even represent in this instance? The inverse of sex and death, pleasure and pain? Everyone seems to die in his wake, so it's not as weird as it seems at first glance. |

| This was a pretty good follow up episode, it was nice to see some of Afro's backstory here, how he met his friends along with his teacher, how he got into his very first fight and where his love for lemonade came from. Now I have seen quite a lot of anime as of now but never before had I had to see a full on sex scene and honest to God this is probably a first for me in Animes. Thank God my folks and sister were away when I saw that scene is all I can say. Moving SHIFTLY on from that, Okiku is surprise, surprise, Otsuru, the girl from the flashback. Sorry but it's kind of obvious because of the lemonade and the fact that she's the only female character in the episode. And then she dies. And I can't believe I'm saying this about her because she really seemed like an interesting character. Otherwise apart from the odd “scene” in this episode, like I said it's a pretty good follow up episode overall. |
