| I'm so pissed. Every week I have chem lab, and today is our last meeting. After every lab, we have to write a post-lab report (generally about 7-10 pages), a pre-lab (2-4 pages going over concepts/chemicals/experiment), and a quiz about the experiment (5 multiple choice questions). We get graded on our attitude, post-labs, pre-labs, quizzes, and results. Attitude is just basically participation (aka you actually do work and not just your lab partner), and results are how well we did the experiment (% yield, etc), worth 10 points each week. We get points taken off based on how high our percent error is. This last report I just wrote, we had a product yield of literally 0% (100% error). And it wasn't just my group, the entire lab section got the same thing. I currently have a 90.2%, and I'll be damned if I don't get an A in this class because of a fucked up experiment that fucking everybody got wrong. |

| Well, I know what went wrong (I had to talk about it in our lab report). Basically, without getting into the technical details, because our glassware was dirty at the beginning of the lab, we had to wash them. And the desired reaction for this experiment called for an aprotic solvent. The glassware was not dried properly (because all we have to do that are fucking paper towels), and thus water (a protic solvent) was introduced to the reaction, fucking it up and making a completely different chemical. So... my lab report is on point, because I talk about specifically what went wrong, but we still get graded on our results independent of everything else. Fucking bullshit. |
