I was somewhat confused at the end of 5Ds when Paradox was mentioned. I didn't think I missed anything in the main 5Ds series, but I didn't dwell on it since it was a long ride between GX and 5Ds. My goal was to eventually watch this film as a cap to my Yu-Gi-Oh marathon.

Oh, so this is where Paradox actually showed up. I see.

Bonds Beyond Time was surprisingly short. I was hoping there was more time for interactions between the three YGO protagonists. As is, it primarily serves to push along Yusei's story, using Jaden and Yugi as a platform to set up his character and dilemma. The villain was from Yusei's story, the framework of time travel is Yusei's domain, and the crux of the story's problems stem from Stardust Dragon getting stolen.

In 5Ds, there were multi-person duels where the protagonists' had their own pool of 4k Life Points, while the antagonist either had a combined total of the protagonists' Life Points, or some gimmick that was completely overwhelming. In doing so, the protagonists would have their own fields to show off their skills, while the antagonist would seem all the more threatening. I was hoping this film would use a similar setup, as by sharing the same field, the protagonists' side seemed crowded. Although, I suppose it's a good metaphor for the dialogue and overall narrative, as the most anyone could do is make fast quips and compliments.

Thinking about it, Bonds Beyond Time somewhat remind me of the ensemble Precure films, where loads of previous protagonists show up to push along the latest team's characters, as they're presumedly the least experienced. Here, Yugi had already established his duelist fame and Jaden's already traveling the world, so their stories are completed. Since Yusei is still in the middle of his story, it makes sense that the other two are helping him along. I really did want to see them interact more, but for what it's worth, I did enjoy seeing them all on the screen. Still, some YGO duels go on for 3-4 episodes, while this duel with Paradox only went on for just a half hour. Heck, Jaden and Yugi only had one turn each, and the duel ended on Yusei's second turn. That was a crazy fast duel over a battle that risked destroying time.

Love how the movie is quite realistic thinking about the Mandela Effect. People collectively remembering a false past, which can even be an obvious often told quote.

I think Yugi loved the new Kuriboh cards. Great love letter to the fans of the anime.

I wish this was longer! (or turn it into a series 12+ episodes) .
Loved seeing them all 3 on screen!
Lol Yusei syncro summon and Yugi and Jaden was like "don't know what that is but cool!"
also cool seeing Yubel and The professor banner with Jaden.
Too bad there were no super rare summons like Egyptian Gods , etc. woulda been cool.
I enjoyed the movie but felt to short.
the 3 didn't get to chat to each other much.
i wish they did. also woulda been cool to see the other characters like Joey, or Jessie but we did see their ace cards.
Gahhhh i really want episode version of this someday... with maybe the newer main characters included.

randomly rewatched this from Twitch YuGiOh_Official Play Eternal Yu-GI-Oh.

So nostalgic.

Too bad DM, GX and 5D are the best of Yu-Gi-Oh and shared the best Yu-Gi-Oh-verse.

.

All the others afterwards are mostly individual universes. (since they sorta have to "rewind time"... else we would end up in space or something as super advanced tech)

And They're all kinda blah as they adds more and more weird mechanics to the game...

Zexal, Arc-V, Vrains, Sevens, Go Rush

(Sevens and GoRush are same universe)

.

Syncro was already crazy enough, but after Pendulum... it gone too crazy, so crazy and they sorta had to remove it from all other future series, LOL.

Pretty decent movie I think, although I might need to rewatch since it's been a while. The Malefic archetype is iconic, but at the same time I kind of wish they'd done more with it.

Moreover, does anyone know if it's still possible to watch this in 3D (like, was a 3D DVD ever released or something)? Everything I've found so far is just the 2D version.
