This is actually a reincarnation story. Chisato was reincarnated from a German Shepherd from 1967 within the United Staes within the espionage division. Takina is your stereotypical housecat from the USSR from 2011. As Chisato's big dog mentality meets her trained assassin like reflexes, she loves people but will take action and win if she has to. Takina, reliving the cold blooded killer she was as a Russian Housecat, she can easily think of 32 different ways to tear out your kidney, sell it on the black market, and down a bottle of Smirnoff right in front of you before you succumb to blood loss. This story revolves around two natural enemies being chained by the laws of humanity so Takina has to resist snaking her arms around Chisato... and squeezing the breath out of her. Chisato on the other hand, much like her late life as a big dog, wants to play with the little feline turned human but is met with opposition. Will there be an understanding? Or will the Cold War reignite??

I don't think they'll actually go for it but I don't know how to read that one scene in episode 3 as anything else.

The obligatory "is this yuri?" thread.

If you want to see yuri, go to watch Sakura Trick, Strawberry Panic, Yuru Yuri, Citrus, Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl, Kanamemo, etc.

There's 0% yuri in this show.

P.S. I LOVE YURI ANIME ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’– (your vote)

The creators are teasing the idea but I somehow doubt it'll go past the subtle nuanced teasing direction. Would certainly not mind it. Yuri is a beautiful thing.

Regardless, the show is stellar either which way.

I don't know why everytime two people become friends, everyone starts asking if they love each other. Do people even know what friendship is?

First, there is nothing more than an idealized depiction of female friendship for a male audience. Secondly, have you ever seen women spank each other on the ass and show other intimate acts?

Yes, in fact lets be generous and not count female streamers/influencers doing this plenty of times or female vtubers talking about skinship like this. Tomboys, girls who are into girls, and just girls in an all girl schools do show skinship like that sometimes. BUT, picking someone from their butt, holding them close, and twirling around is pretty intimate.

Me and my best friend (both girls) do this sometimes, we hug all the time, pick each other up (like Chisato picked up Takina) out of nowhere, do weird shit everyone considers "too intimate". It's not weird at all. A lot of girls do this and there's nothing romantic about it.

Lol and ofc some people on MAL go fucking crazy over the mere thought that a girl might be a lesbian

Denying lesbian existence by over and over repeating

" No, they are just friends!!!!! Goddamit stop saying lesbians exists!!! You making me so fucking angry!!"

Is this a Yuri? Well, I haven't watched a full episode. And I probably not going to either, I have watched some from the first episode and there are too many annoying males in this for my taste, So I am not interested

But in Yuri, they often use symbolism like the white lily flower or the lily flower with a blue overtone. As a Yuri lover, I always keep my eyes open for this symbol

Why friendship or love?
It is friendship, no doubt. Chisato and Takina became friends. But there is more...
It is love, too, I have no doubt. The way Takina acts hints she loves Chisato. But I did not see anything hinting Chisato loves Takina...
Love is an ample concept.
It is not Yuri.

I don't ship or anything but I think it's pretty obvious they're in love with each other, or at least will be revealed to be so soon. The show has subtly hinted at and later revealed characters to be homosexual before, plus Chisato was wearing a shirt with "Love" for their last date.

Is it friendship? Yes. Is it love? Also yes.
Love is kind of wide, if both got no love they won't get along as we see right now (Well, yes, some do fight with each other as a form of love though, but not in this case).

But, of course, we are talking about "that" kind of love right?
Until now, those two are still only just as much of a friend. Well, maybe we can call them best friends. But still can't be declared as "lover" as the studio still decided on the grey line (portraying as if they have a much deeper relationship, but will deny it whenever asked).

It is just something that a studio really likes to do to attract the market.

It's deliberately kept ambiguous for now so that fans are free to read their relationship however they want.
As yuri is not the primary focus of the series, teasing is more elegant and more efficient than setting stuff in stone. More engagement from fans, too.

Considering how back in 2016 the author said he wanted to write a story with yuri and guns, I figured this may end up being yuri but with just 4 eps left, I can't see any space for there to be any romantic developments. Though it is an original anime so there's no saying how things end up, and besides, there is yaoi in Lycoris so yuri is not entirely out of the question. I personally would love to see some sort of yuri development but even if there isn't any I won't complain

Then again, I saw this on twitter the other day: https://twitter.com/_Shizudreamland/status/1563768635008892928?s=20&t=E4RHttqiOvBzysWUcBTP5A

and tbf this could be nothing more than massive doses of hopium but still worth mentioning

In the modern sense, yuri also often means "female characters with important emotional connections between them", so this is not so far from the truth. The author of Outside Picnic even gave whole lectures about it. As far as BL is concerned, it really looks weird and unusual as the show has never been aimed at a female or western audience. Also, judging by the Japanese wiki, the main reference was Gunslinger Girl, which you can really see from the tropes used.

It doesn't even have to be ambiguous, it's just that there is a practice of writers writing very meaningful platonic relationships to both arouse shipping interest and leave the work to a wider audience for different audiences. For example, even NOIR was made according to this scheme.

If I got a dollar every time a characters being close is treated as "sutly hinted as gay", then I'd be a millionaire by now.

Like I said before, the typical male "I won't do this to my male friend, so they're lesbians" mentality.

Uhm.. no? No omg, we are not shipping them because they are just 2 main girls, we are shipping them because they are very shippable, they are literally yin & yang material lol, one of the best dynamic types of couple. With those black & white material, we are not forcing them to be together, it's them who is forcing us into this ship

I could believe it if literally any pair of female characters didn't become a ship, even if one or both of the girls had significant male love interests prior to that. Especially considering that 90% of friends in Asian or Western content are written as opposites. So, the creators of any show want you to ship friends?

Mika and Yoshi's relationship is confirmed so in hindsight, details like the team's suspicion of his sexuality and him not revealing Shinji's affiliation with the Allan Institute may have been subtle hints.

You're just trying to interpret things by backdating, when revealing their sexuality was just a twist in that episode (moreover, a rather open twist without any hints or subtext). When you are literally given jokes with a clear hint and things are revealed without any baiting at the end of the episode, these are not "subtle hints". Also, I highly doubt that their romantic relationship was the sole reason for their association with the organization and Chisato. I understand that this is not a very deep show, but there is no need to simplify it further by reducing the essence of the characters to their sexuality.

It's obvious that their relationship wasn't the sole reason for their association with AI or Chisato. I never interpreted those as hints either.

I don't see how I'm reducing characters to their sexualities?

Aren't you implying that allusions to their relationship with Chisato were allusions to their relationship? Or are you saying that the way one episode did the "they're gay" punchline was a subtle hint? In this case, you don't understand what a "subtle hint" is and you don't see the difference between it and setting up the plot before the twist. A subtle reference is a dialogue in episode 8 when Chisato says that she doesn't like "foreign objects in her body" alluding to a heart, for example.

Ok, I'll give this to you. The main cast being suspicious of Mika wasn't subtle. Great.
There are still other details I'd consider hints though, subtle or not.

They weren't subtle hints because they were setting up the plot for the twist at the end of the episode. If these were subtle hints, nothing would have happened at the end of the episode and you've still was speculated about what could means. Most shows that use this method of subtext operate on the iceberg rule and it never gets to the level of stand-up humor. And yes, when you take scenes of intimacy between characters and just declare them as subtle hints, giving them the interpretation you want in advance, these are not subtle hints either. This is wishful thinking and a Texas shooter's mistake.
