Honestly, I guess it's the variety that keeps me engaged in watching anime and reading manga.

One anime can be just a cute show about a bunch of cute girls hanging out in their club after school, while another is about giant robots fighting each other. One popular show is about a boy, who can kill people by writing their names into a notebook, while another is about a group of pirates traveling through an interesting and big world.

I guess seeing all these different stories is, what stops anime from being boring to me.

It used to be the variety because I tended to switch between serious, semi-serious and not serious at all. Right now however I'm taking a break because I don't have time to watch anime at all except for the odd seasonal. I do miss watching though.

I'm interested in anime, because it's mostly entertaining, like the plot, characters, animation and sound. I feel like I'd be missing out on anime that I could be entertained by, if I stopped watching anime.

IDK it's a hobby it's entertainment. I mean I like animation/comics. The Japanese industry for both of those have the most varied amount of stories for those while having art or animation that draws me to them.

If I am feeling bored of anime/manga the best thing to do is to take a break. I was out of anime/manga for a long time but I got back into it a few years ago. As a result of that break I ended up being a bigger fan than when I left. I only have one hobby that I don't tire of so even with anime/manga being one of the most dominant hobbies I have these days I still need a break.

The second thing is just to yeah make use of that variety and read/watch stuff from different genres, demographics or eras. There are certain genres I definitely didn't think I would be interested in when I first got into anime but as I branch out more and more it's harder to get bored.

Really nothing much about what keeps me interested in it. After completing an anime whether it was good or bad, there’s always going to be something new and interesting to watch/read out there

About the comparison with Western media: there are great western series, but also more shit than actual good series and somehow I'm too impatient to follow most of these series.
The last live action show I had patience for were three seasons of American Horror Story and I might have dedication for The Witcher series, if I like the first episodes. Even for Game of Thrones I lost interest after five seasons, but anime or animation in general hooks me up.

There are a lot of shitty series as well. I quickly got oversaturated with american tv shows, especially comedy / sitcoms. Although I think, IF they are good, they are a lot better than most Japanese humor. Most Japanese comedy couldn't catch me at all. There are two comedy anime I found really funny in the last one or two years and these were Aggretsuko, which is very western, Humanity Has Declined and Hoozuki no Reitetsu. I guess I like some dialogue-heavy, ironic and bizarre humor... sometimes.
Most american humor and typical sitcoms on tv on the other hand are very bland, boring and very repetitive of the kind sexual jokes a middle schooler would laugh at and (mostly gender, but basically every) every stereotypes you could think of. A collegue wanted me to give Two Broke Girls and two other comedies "at least a chance" and I swear, after a few episodes I was not more broke yet broken.
And some modern comedy doesn't understand very well imo that banter and all is very funny, but these shows just don't come off as bantering and pickering, they just hate each others guts to death. If you want to do that you have to be as funny as the first few House MD seasons, sorry, and even them didn't came off as hating each other (sometimes?) But the longer the series ran, the more sociopathic his behavior became, same for series about Sherlock. I read three, I think, of the Sherlock original stories and no he didn't came off as plain sociopath there, but in these new storytelling it's "haha, we don't know how to use stuff properly and witty, people will laugh about sociopaths. Because ironic, witty and sometimes slightly rude comments aren't enough, we need more bang to it and so, you know.
Tho I liked Disentchantment lately, speaking of western comedy. It was a kinda funny fantasy parody, I give this credit.

For all of the other stuff, TV is full with shitty shows that eats away your brain alive. We even don't have the ordinary tv programm anymore since like two years, the only time I could watch it is when I'm visiting my mom. Even her (over 60) watches besides some animal programs, nature documentaries and sometimes series like Law & Order, rarely other types of tv program anymore too. When I'm visiting her, she is glad to watch with me anime or a movie.
There are too many of the dumb casting and game shows of all kind etc. or reality shows, stuff that gossips a lot about the private life of stars, which is crazy per se, since I don't know how these pictures and stuff they talk about isn't stalking in the eyes of the law and that this is fine with privacy laws and all. And people are on a moral level completely okay with other people they don't know personally, being invaded in their most personal private life, so they could gossip about them.
In German TV we have some special kind of scripted reality tv that is only good for memes, but a poll showed that quite many teenagers and even some of the adults watching them, couldn't tell that the stories (very, very cheap, cliched stories and actors) were scripted.

And I love art and animation anyway, so I rarely watch a longer live action series and rarely tv in general, since years. When I watch live action series I want to follow for a longer time, then I'd try The Witcher or similar.
Besides that I can watch more anime since years, because I'm not filling my day / hours of media consume a day anymore with watching stuff I even don't like. Some people are like 4, 5 hours in front of programs they don't really like.

Yes I try to get random recommendation, but if I feel like it's a chore I just take a break. Gaming or visual novel, though visual novel is harder than watching anime.

Yeah it is lol. Whats your favorite anime?

Isekai show but it's not like there's anything as good as konosuba so far. It's just average but easy to watch for me. I'm usually enjoying mainstream show, what about you?

Did you watch joker movie? I don't know if watching live action movie is considered as taking a break so. Joker is usually like over the top being funny so it fits anime mood if you're wondering why I'm bringing it up.

Animes are short and has interesting sinopsis and characters. You can watch lots of series because there are so many genres.

For me, it's just a endless hunt for masterpieces. All shows on my favorite tab left such a good impression on me, that just makes me move forward and keep watching. Hot anime girls are also a heavy factor for me, te-he

Same here dude. I found that my all time favorite is Berserk, but I still go back and watch "bad anime" or anime that allows me to turn my brain off. Those are a plus too lol.

basically something like this. A need for escapism that only grows stronger the more humanity plummets towards its inevitable and well-earned demise.
I probably regret this post by now.

Good fight scenes for action animes
Good plot for all animes
A bit of fan service here and there, however I don't mind a lot of it though.
Good characters and character development.
Some sad scenes here and there
"I suffered all my life. No one ever truly loved me. No one ever truly cared about me. I only loved one thing in my whole life and that was Christina Menefee. But she was torn away from me. I tried to save myself with [student’s name], but she never cared for me. As it turns out, she made fun of me behind my back while we were together. And all throughout my life I was ridiculed. Always beaten, always hated. [...] I am malicious because I am miserable."

"It was not a cry for attention, it was not a cry for help. It was a scream in sheer agony [...]"
