From what I've seen it was too slow and dull for some. They couldn't get attached to the characters which I can comprehend to a certain degree, but the most important characters Hiromi and Yuito were fleshed out enough for me and had proper closure.

And the usual complaints regarding style over substance and melodrama. Which are always annoying for me.

style over substance? really? That seems like a gross misuse of that phrase since the anime wasn't even very stylized. Not to mention I usually see that as a compliment for very stylish anime with good storytelling/visuals :>

I found the drama in the show to actually be surprisingly non-melodramatic. Not just the beautiful final ep, but even the smaller bumps in the road along the way were generally handled fairly reasonable after only short periods of misunderstanding or frustration. Definitely can't agree with criticizing the drama. It being slow and dull I can understand, I felt the same during some episodes at least which is why I didn't give the show a higher score even when I really liked the conclusion and the drama.

As somebody who really didn't like Irozuku I'd like to bring my perspective here. First I must say: the show was well-received and fairly talked about... but this was the season of Zombieland Saga, Goblin Slayer, Bunny Girl or the new JoJo and in comparison we didn't hear much of this show. But people loved it, it has a good average in MAL, and plenty of anitubers covered it with nothing but praise.

Now, among my multiple issues with the series, there's the lack of interest on the characters as a major one, since I found all of them dull, with no exception, and including the two MCs. Now, there are moments of really good character exposition and chemistry, but to me it's just those moments in a whole that felt dull and uninteresting. That would be my main reason, since I would have enjoyed the show a lot more had I found the characters engaging, but I had issues with other aspects of the show and specially with its dramatic choices and focus.

Anime only viewer. But I thought Tokyo Ghoul Re was alright. I know people that read the manga will say its a terrible adaptation and all that. And I agree that it went through things kinda fast. The fight were pretty good to me though. And I like what the story is about of humans and ghouls co-existing. It's interesting to me.
