A flashback to Fuji's high school days shows that Fuji was always a loner who spent much of her school day outside of class reading and hanging out with her friends Mimi and Ren.

Back to the present, Mimi and Ren come over to Fuji's apartment for a visit. Ren brought over some antique ceramics from a vacation trip and brought a dog bowl for Kimi. She seems to be getting along well with him. The same cannot be said for Mimi who tells Kimi that he looks like a tanuki, which insults Kimi and and prompts him to not want anything to do with Mimi, to Mimi's dismay.

As we saw last episode, Kimi doesn't like to have pictures taken by Fuji, so I doubt he'd be okay with being recorded by Fuji's friends either lmao.

After the three friends make gyozas together, Kimi seemed to have come around on Mimi after being given some of those dumplings as treats, though he still doesn't want Mimi to touch her leaf.

Despite what the high school flashback suggested, Fuji does like going to the beach. She just thinks it's more fun to go there alone (and therefore without her friends). As Toddintheshadows once said, "See, here's the thing. Maybe he does like the beach. He just doesn't like being at the beach with you."

You know, I can relate to wanting to enjoy things in your own time, but when my friends want me to do something fun with them, I always take the chance. It's a good way to distract yourself from all the negative petty thoughts related to whatever stuff you get into on social media, scathing anime opinions included.

Anyhow, Fuji and Kimi enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the beach, with Fuji digging a hole for Kimi to bathe in, the two eating a delicious watermelon together, and otherwise basking in the scenery until dusk.

There's literally nobody else in the anime who's an actual person, just random characters who show up as plot devices solely to emphasize that Fuji isn't a loner by chance, but by design. Strange, because I'm also a loner by choice, but I'd never call my dad/mum only to hang up on them mid-sentence or refuse to go somewhere with my friends only to end up sending them pictures of myself going to that same place alone, like... What? That's really strange behaviour, why would anyone do that? A better depiction of a loner-by-choice is probably Rin from Yurukyan. She has a good family and friends, but she prefers to be alone without trying to rub it in anyone's face - be it the in-universe cast's or the audience's.

I've seen a few people over on Reddit theorize that Fuji is on the autism spectrum, hence her weird social behaviors. As an autistic adult myself, I can get behind that.
