And so it begins. Let the grand battle commence. I have to give props to you, Shizuna, for even taking on what very easily could become an unwieldy behemoth.
So many beautiful and sharp-looking girls of all kinds - shrewd and astute, pamper-worthy, etc. I've been saying for a long time now that once I manage to get off the seasonal kick I eventually need to really dive into and start whittling down my PTW list including taking on much more copious amounts of older stuff from the 90s, 80s, and 70s with regularity, and this tournament and seeing all them up there only reinforces and solidifies that conviction. Especially considering 90s in particular but the other preceding decades too (and stretching back far earlier than the 70s) is like my comfort zone and area I'm most familiar with outside of anime, but inside anime it's the opposite and I'm mostly 21st century/post-2000-oriented and have been on the brand new seasonals kick for the past five years. Whereas in other mediums I rarely even watch that much newer stuff coming out of them these days and follow very little actively.
Anyway, a lot of the characters whose series I haven't actually seen in part or in whole I'm still aware of by name and face/image and the few I'm not it still won't be too difficult to decide on a purely aesthetic basis if it comes down to that.
1999 and older:
François de Jarjayes
Nogami Saeko (City Hunter is one of those series I've known of for a while and truly need to get around to)
Koizumi Akira (pretty sure that her and her series would annoy me substantially, but she's just too gorgeous)
Anne Shirley (already with the tough choices this early, huh? But Anne has to win out - Her character development in the 1979 Akage no Anne is some of the best I've seen in all of anime)
Katerose von Kreutzer
Lina Inverse
Lum
Natsume (rarely see her referenced, but safe to say my first anime crush before I realized that Pokemon was an anime or that anime existed)
Tomoe Hotaru
Katsuragi Misato (her, Rei's, and Gendo's characters were character-wise the only saving grace and bright side of Neon Genesis Evangelion for me)
Iwakura Lain (if it were an actual battle of relative power and omnipotence all the other girls and the whole tournament should be at her feet, realistically)
Kanzaki Urumi
Aino Minako
Ayanami Rei
Tooyama Kazuha
Jinzouningen 18-gou
Ebichu
San
Hildegard von Mariendorf (a very fastidious administrator; such an excellent political wife and public face for Reinhard's position)
Casca (originally almost nominated her before she was nominated by someone else, out of love on my part for the 1997 anime series and select moments from her, but then thought on it and realized that there were too many other moments where she legitimately irks me so that it would feel insincere; will still vote for her though)
Sasahara Natsuki (encourage more voters here to check out Hyper Police, for those who haven't)
Mine Fujiko
Dominique Saint-Pierré
Deedlit
Haibara Ai
Ayukawa Madoka
Nausicaä (love the Ghibli representation and inclusion here as I wasn't even considering films)
Kido Saori
Kobayakawa Miyuki (that's despite Nami never looking hotter than here)
Kusakabe Maron
Lafiel Abriel
Kamigishi Akari
This definitely is one of those cases where I'll be very interested to see and peruse through not just the outcome of individual matches, but the vote disparity as I'm curious to see which ones will be close versus slaughters.
