Wouldn't it be easier to say that "I like yuri because it involves two girls in a romantic relationship, which I think is the hottest thing ever and it must be the greatest thing in the world I have not experienced and even though I know who I am in real life, I totally wish I were them, so when I watch it I fap because it raises the intensity of my complete fantasy?"

Sry @nova, but I don't want to sound contrived or anything, but I think men are the potential of yuri. It's how I see it.

Let's say women are 50, men are 0.1, and men who fap to girl on girl as -30, we'll have to multiply by a Strike Witches fan service factor to get some positive whole integers. So their potential of yuri is as follows:

Women: 10
Lesbians: (inc. shoujo-ai) 20
Men:40
Men who fap to girl on girl: 3,526.

The disparity between women and lesbians would not allow for something over a 20. Tests have proven that women don't like to watch girl on girl and be in the mood to fap. Lesbians already live a girl on girl life and thus don't really need to watch it on TV, except for those girls that KAWAII over South of Nowhere and that stupid show L Word. So they will never reach their potentials for the yuri market. If I told a girl that a relationship between us would be the potential to be perfect, it might make a great pick up line.

But I think how men are emotionally allows them to achieve a "perfect" relationship with yuri. Men love images of girls, girls kissing, and girls kissing other girls. This of course, don't chastise me now, is all theoretical; since there are many men out there who don't. But for the sake of my number crunching and argument it's theoretical, my best friend from grade school agrees with me as I type. SO the market goes up and more yuri anime get made. Lots of men want to pay to read it.

I wish I had an axiom to help me, but I don't

Much like people with weird theories and the potentials of things, I would much rather have one of my own :-D

The reason I like Yuri has become somewhat of an enigma hidden in obscurity, and for a long time I simply failed to acknowledge it as something prominent. It would seem that for some time now Ive been reading and watching media dealing with themes both Shoujo-Ai and Yuri. I can honestly say that I am now an avid fan of the genre and simply love relishing in its magnificent way of story telling. Yuri can be held as a somewhat taboo subject for some, which in my opinion adds a higher level of versatility, thus in correlation can be interpreted as being somewhat daring and mysterious in it's literary content as opposed to your normal romantic stories.

Yuri has always been unique in the sense that it allows it's reader the chance to observe the psyche of characters who participate in the act of female love. In the end I think that's what attracts me to the genre and warrant my interests most. I like to think that since I'm a male in gender, themes dealing with Yuri can be viewed in a more obscure sense and thus it's underlying meaning and prevailing aim doesn't necessarily become blatantly clear to it's readers. Thus the genre as a whole becomes somewhat of an enigma, left to be pondered in silence.

Of course there are contrasting elements and ways of story telling that differ between the authors that create these artistic works dealing with Yuri. Ive read a variety of One Shots that quickly convey it overall message, while in opposition Ive read titles that remain abstract to the minds eye. Perhaps I simply dote on the genre and give it more leeway in it's ideological construction, though in retrospective Yuri can be a rather droll in its resurgence of repetitive material.

I wholeheartedly want to engage myself in a Yuri series but I can't really find a title that warrants my utmost attention. Of course there are series like Aoi Hana and Sasameki Koto, both being conveyed very well thus far. I still can't help but feel like I want a bit more, this craving has become somewhat of a debated debacle which has of course force me too pick up a variety of One Shot's dealing with the Yuri genre.

The reason I like yuri is because by the looks of it, it doesn't matter what gender they are they still love each other and such. Well that's the yuri with the storylines at least.

Not really sure how I can explain it. Dx

There's a softness to it that I don't really find in typical romance. And there aren't that many straight couples that appeal to me when I'm reading fanfiction.

Other than that, I don't really know why I like it. ^^

It all comes down to one thing: I like cute anime girls. No, seriously.

It's hard for me to put into words why I am so fond of the yuri genre, but I'll try to make a lists of a few key aspects that make me love the genre so much. Of course, there is a lot more than what I am about to list.

- Girl x girl relationships are simply wonderful. They're just so cute.
- Female leads are a nice change of pace from male leads.
- Yuri generally has an all girls cast, which intrigues me.
- The plot for most yuri animes seems to be emotional compelling.
- The character development is usually nice with such interesting characters.

Pretty good point you got here..Though I'm surprised that came from a girl XD

I like yuri because it makes for better relationships. They're closer and more emotional. I'm also of the opinion that girls make far better characters than guys, so the fact that there can be more better characters is a plus.

I like yuri because it strays away from the ordinary and common relationships of malexfemale. I was into yaoi when I was younger, but after awhile I was tired of shallow sex fiends with a story of 0% plot.

I love yuri because of the emotional strain that the characters reach in their stories. There are other factors that the characters face that are surreal and true to real life. (though they are stretched and glorified as an end result). Most importantly, I feel that their love is indeed pure and innocent, which is repeatedly conveyed in many anime and manga I have come across.

The drama is another slice of the cake that just tugs at me.

Hmm... I guess the largest factor in my enjoyment with the genres is that love in shoujo-ai and yuri (from those that I have seen anyway) is more real than in most straight romances. I watch more for that aspect than anything else. The cuteness factor is seconday, but also insanely adorable and something straight romances rarely have.

To be honest, I'm not sure yet. lol. Weeeeeell, I dont really like hentai period. Ecchi can be good at time... I'm a perv, but I'm a romantic perv. Kinda odd... Well, I knew what yuri was but everything that seems to have sexual tone to it in anime seems to fall in a full out porn category with fans. Whats the point of putting a genre on porn?

Anyhoo - a few other animes I watched had some freaking intense yuri themes / relationships. With a story @_@ Was surprised to find them taged as yuri to be honest... Hell, watched a boy love anime a while back due to my: nothing could be worse then the horror that is Broke Back Mountain - experience at that time. *ahem* well the anime had a good STORY and wasnt just some gay porn with no dialog. In fact, there was NO gay porn in it.

That was my only venture into the realm of gay anime, but recent event made me think maybe there was yuri anime that was worth WATCHING out there and I joined this club out of impulse. I am still trying to find if there is good yuri (my idea of good) out there or not ^_^

Oh crap. Why do I like it? I like girls, I like intense romance, I dont like dudes. Girls in RL dont want intense romance, and most guys cant do it anyway (myself included apparently). But the deep sensual / teasing / lusting / naive / forbidden yet you blush instead of anger feelings are... Cool? Be cooler if it was me and a girl and not me watching 2 anime girls... But the concept of the .., urhm, atmosphere of emotions they put off is heart pounding.

I mean 'cmon, I'm a perv. Yet watching Kiddy Grade I kept blushing out of the blue. Just from KIDDY GRADE! It feels good to just be flustered from time to time :)

I do remember reading somewhere, that it's healthy to have a full range of emotions going, and not just a few. Anime helps with the sad and embarrassing :D.

I think girls in love with other girls are better then any other type of love. Especially in Animes and Mangas. My favorite examples are My-Hime and Steel Angel Kurumi Season 1&2.
So heres my Top 10 simple reasons why GIRLS RULE.

1: No anime is complete without having fanservice of girls.
2: Becuase girls got a better taste in fashion
3: Girls got a bigger and better selection of outfits.
4: Girls always look better then guys in the Anime/Manga world.
5: Girls can always fun funner places to go.
6: Girls always can find better vacation areas.
7: Girl on girl love is more pure because girls actually can share their feels and thoughts with each other.
8: No matter the emotions, girls always look great and can look even better if the right emotion happens at the right time.
9: People are always making shoujo-ai/yuri pairings.
10: Girls can twist guys around their finger and control them in animes/mangas, no matter how strong the guys are. Proving girls are better.

Aside from the very obvious "girls are cute and two girls are cuter" and the somewhat stereotypical "we men love to see girls get it on" there's also the fatherly "If I ever caught my precious daughter with a boyfriend I'd beat him up!!!" male perspective that shouldn't be forgotten.

One of the advantages of yuri is not having to worry about some obnoxious playboy or big-mouthed and ignorant punk stealing the heart of your favorite character just because he can spurt a few 'romantic' words.

I mean after all, it doesn't matter which but, a girls always fine...right?

Aside from my own preferences (Very much a girl that likes girls!) I feel that there's a certain degree of sensuality and depth to the romance between two girls that just can't be achieved between a hetero couple.

In all honesty it's sort of just like... A yuri couple is both cute and wonderfully beautiful at the same time and there's quite a lot more to enjoy about it. Also... I guess there's also the fact that since Yuri isn't the norm in relationships so it feels special every time it's there.

Uh.... Other than the above reasons... I guess I like Yuri because it just gives a feeling of depth and personal attachment due to the way I can relate to some of the relationships.

Oh! This isn't to say that Het relationships are bad, if anything, they're wonderful too, just... I think the best het relationship I've seen in anime for the past decade has been in Kimi ni Todoke since it has a few of the qualities I attribute to Yuri in a Het package :D.

Edit: How did I forget the fact that I just love the female form? XD Two of them together is just awesome.

Well, I tend to find that Yuri anime has far better character development than most other genres of anime, the storylines tend to be far more compelling than other romance genres. With Yuri, we get a real demonstartion of loves sheer strength, that brings two people will defy the conventions of society, defy what they know in their head is not normal, but in their heartfeels so, so right.

Risking their social status and their relationships with the others who they love, something only those who truly love one another would be willing to risk. That's what seperates Yuri from other romance genres. With a man and a woman, theres no risk... perhaps marrying outside one's social strata, but not defying what is the status quo not by any social limitations, but by human biology. With two men, we have the same biological defiance, but we don't have the same social defiance. Gay men may break the taboo of homosexuality, but Lesbian couples break the power that a man has over woman. In the Victorian era, Buggery was made illegal, but with no law for Lesbians, simply because the idea of two women having sex with one another was almost inconceivable.

Who the hell am I kidding... MOAR GRRLS! HAWT!

As some users already said that I agree with:
- 2 girls kissing is HOT
- it's more amusing to see 2 girl's elegant bodies together
- it's natural for men and lesbians/any girl to like it
- more drama/romance(the line between friendship and love is thin in shoujo ai)

Another small point I like yuri is because I'm sick and tired of seeing animes where cute girls fall in love with an indecisive guy who overreacts on minor things but in the end he did the right thing to show he actually cares about the girl and so the story can continue. Yeah, I know there's alot of animes with this kind of plot, so there's no use complaining about it.
