First console I owned was the mighty Sega Genesis/MegaDrive. I still remember the day my parents walked in along with a huge box and I simply glomped it down. =x God, I loved the years that console entertained me with Gunstar Heroes. ;D

First console I bought was the...Nintendo 64, which I bought this year, to be exact. XD

My brother bought the PS2 which we used together, but since it was his buy, it doesn't count. (It IS however connected to my TV, because he's using the PS3 now XD)

I voted for the Atari 2600, but honestly I think it was a 5200. Man, that was YEARS ago...

I remember being really mad when I came home because my mom had pawned it off. She did it so she could afford the NES for Christmas. She did the same thing with the NES for the SNES.

Good times :)

I don't have a good one because I don't photoshop :(

First one I played was the SNES - my grandmother had bought it back around the time it launched. We got our SNES a couple years after that.

First one my family owned that I remember was the NES, though. Since the price dropped after the SNES came out, they got it on discount with two controllers and SMB3. I think we have a total of 8 or 9 games for it. Metroid, Mega Man 6, StarTropics (oh I hated that game), some Super Rally game my dad loved playing, Wheel of Fortune Jr., Rocky and Bullwinkle, Pac-Man, and maybe one other I can't recall. Actually, my parents first owned an Atari 2600 but I was too young to remember it. I think I was probably 2 or 3 when it broke - we were living in our current house, though, so it was sometime after September 1987.

First one I myself owned was a Sega Genesis though - got it for my birthday when Wal-Mart marked the thing down to 80 bucks to get rid of them. I chose that over an N64 because I wanted a stereo and my parents would only let me get either the N64 for Christmas or the Genesis for my birthday and the stereo for Christmas. I still don't have an N64, but the Genesis and that stereo are still around (even though the radio dial tuner is practically busted - can still play tapes reliably and CDs kind of reliably). I had gotten a Game Boy for my birthday like 5 years before that, though. The big gray brick type too.

Family: NES->SNES->PS2->XBox
Me: Genesis->PSX->Dreamcast (which I use with emulators for other systems)

And we still have all of them, and they all still work (although the NES is finicky about playing things; gotta blow the dust out of the cartridge/wipe it out with a Q-Tip, wiggle it around in the loading slot, the works - it, the SNES, and Genesis aren't hooked up, though, and the PSX and Dreamcast have to alternate between which one is hooked up because they're both on a little 13" TV in my room).

Our cousins had a Sega Master System, though - all I remember of it are a Ghostbusters game and some racing game with really crappy graphics that only had an aerial view and lots of green and beige to mark where the track and grass were. I can play a load of SMS and Game Gear games on my Dreamcast, though. Original R-Type and Klax ftw.

The first system I ever owned was an NES, and I was happy as a clam to get it. Though I got it a year and a half after it actually came it so it had gone down in price, it was still new to me. After that it was SNES to the 64, to the PS1 to the PS2 and now here I sit with the PS2.

well i was mainly an arcade kid. i remember my step-dad had a NES and eventually gave it to me after my step sisters moved. My real dad owned a SNES and man it has to be one of my all time favorite consoles! Ninja Warriors FTW! The sad part is when my mother and step-dad bought me a playstation in 99', they sold my NES! Sad times. Lets see 100%mine would go Nes>Playstation>PS2>Xbox>PSTwo (the thin one). I want a 360!

I'll go with the popular choice too ! First was the Nes, but I stuck to everything Sega from there on (from the Genesis all the way to the Saturn and Dreamcast) until my streak was broke by the PSX (woot, original model looked much sturdier than the PSOne redesign IMO), and later the N64 (which I sold after just a year, such a lame system).

Yeah, Mario 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, F-Zero X, Mischief Makers, Star Fox 64, the Zeldas, and the only good wrestling games ever made. What a bad system the 64 was.

Also known as Monster in a box, but I hate that handle...and it doesn't fit here.

Not a HUGE 3D Mario fan, defintely NOT a FPS fan (hence why I've never touched an Xbox), plus, Star Fox, what's that again? The only thing that could have convinced me was Zelda, and I'm not keeping a system for two games (three if I count Smash Brothers). Can I keep my opinion now? kthxbai.

i love n64 but it is ultimatly a failed system since the games were not very graphically good exept the ones you stated LYLAT WARS(aka STAR FOX) was an awsome game

dreamcast was alot better but sega did not know how to run their company so they failed too.

the problem was for a long time that nintedos power in their consoles did not match the ideas they were having, but now it seems to be ok so hopfully they can focus on making some good games. unfortunatly they have phased themselves out of the hardcore gamers mind so its down to if your a ninti fan or a casual gamer

Pretty much everything in that capital-less post was crap. All 3 of the current consoles are aimed at casual gamers if you ask me.

Well, the Xbox 360 ended up being the gamer's choice this time even though Microsoft just hastily designed it to compete with Sony's well-designed cutting-edge PS3. You can totally tell Microsoft just took it out of their asses when they had to be asked to up the graphical power by Epic AND are now faced with unknown hardware problems which they don't even dare reveal to the public (aside from the "if you see one or three Ring lines turn Red, calls us and send the Xbox in).

So, technically right now, Xbox 360, as it is mostly a videogame console, it's aimed at gamers (it doesn't have a built-in HD-player and until recently it didn't even have an HDMI port). PS3 it's your entertainment system with everything you could ever want built in one (movies, games, online, music). The Wii is just gimmick, for the most part, and very dependant on the party element. I'm in no way dissing the Wii, just pointing out you ussually blast it out whenever your friends come over (otherwise you tire of it quickly).

So, IMO, no, not all consoles are aimed at the casual gamers right now. Wii is. The PS3 tried to catch everyone (and fails expectacularly at grabbing none of them). And the XBox 360 is the hardcore gamer's system by default.

Well, personally the only games on the Xbox 360 I'd care about enough to buy are Katamari, Halo 3, and Virtua Fighter 5. And none of those are system sellers in my eyes. Plus it's been out for an extra year compared to the other two. Everyone seems to forget that detail.

PS3 has some good upcoming games like Metal Gear Solid, and Disgaea, and it also has Virtua Fighter 5. I wouldn't pay more than $200 to be able to play those games though.

Wii is going to have the next Smash Bros. and is affordable. Also, it has Fire Emblem.

I don't really find any of the 3 impressive, but I own a Wii because it isn't $500, and I really like Smash Bros. and Fire Emblem.

Also known as Monster in a box, but I hate that handle...and it doesn't fit here.

Well, the sheer amount of hype and sales of Halo 3 seems to categorize it, along with the MGS series, as a system seller. The problem with the PS3 is that people don't "think" that Blu-Ray is that necessary (you'll love Blu-Ray videos once you have the capability of watching them) and it hasn't had that true System seller like the Xbox 360 already does. But your oppinion is actually what many people are currently thinking right now hence why the Wii is selling so fast.
