I don't really know what elements should be to be a AOTY.
But, let me conclude why many people felt unsatisfied, I think one of you all can agree.
1. The arcs are too short and felt rushed.(it feels like 5 mins)
2. After the episode 9, many people are disappointed whether they hated that the parents are not dead or the hype build up is disappointing.
3.Their expectations for the show is too high that it exceeds too much to what the anime had to offer.
4. action action action, just expect action.
5. They didn't have the same feeling as the season 1.
6.It was boring compared to the second season.
7. The world domination arc is boring.
8.It felt.... empty and bland

It is the best anime of the year no doubt. Studio bones is one of the best animation studio out the giving masterpieces title like fulllmetal, my hero, mob psycho 100 etc. I'm glad that it is now ranked #12. It truly deserves it otherwise there are overrated shows like SNK, SAO, Dragon ball that are nothing but garbage and still gets attention and more popularity.

So far yes, but here are some shows/films I’ve either liked a ton or am anticipating quite a bit. A lot of these aren’t super anticipated, so maybe you’ll find something interesting you haven’t heard of before.

Yuasa/Shinkai/Imaishi film (At least 1 of these will be incredible, all of which are auteurs in their own rights and have each gained a respectable following. Personally, I look most forward to Yuasa’s film).

Kaguya (Second favorite winter show).

Carole and Tuesday (BONES and Watanabe joint, looks like a cowboy bebop kids on the slope combo, which could lead to some sick visuals).

Either popular Chinese ONA (Anime or not, Kings Avatar and Mo Dao Zu Shui have been some of the best shows to come out as of recent, and am looking forward to the sequels).

Possibly a Netflix ONA (7 seeds looks promising, looking forward to watching Ultraman).

Sarazanmai (Ikuhara, trailer has some really cool visuals).

Mix (Mitsuru Adachi is my favorite mangaka of all time, and I can’t see MIX being bad in any way).

Run with the Wind (Favorite leftover of last year).

Why are we forgetting Yakusoku no Neverland? Kinda rushed but adapted phenomenally. Moreover it's S2 is announced :). Hoping it will be Anime of the year.

For hero aca, pro hero arc is gonna be great but overhaul, not so much. I mean, even the fans have major complaints about the ending, despite loving it anyway.
I aint gonna spoil it but the final fight took a very "interesting" turn at the end.

I read the manga from Ep 4 and was shoked that the anime was rushed. When the show ended I was like
How Can something Rushed be so good!!!
9 months are Still left for the year. Let's hope somthing better comes!!

Idk why people are saying Mob Psycho has no chance. It's the best thing I've seen this year along with Carole and Tuesday. And I've seen most of the anime people talk about. Also the current season looks really underwhelming

It was a pretty good season but the climax of the show just followed the same pattern as the end of season one. It seemed like the show was just repeating itself so I ended up being bored by the end.

Just refresher to remind you that it's still the best anime of the year.

Even if some actions in Kimetsu no Yaiba was cool (ep 19). It had boring story and dull characters. Mob tops this easily.
