ALL YOU NEED IS EVANGELION AND GURREN LAGANN.
Liking SAO over all the other great anime out there implies shit taste by default though.

After you find your anime preference and know your taste .(why you like dislike something and compare it)

Sounds simple right but it is not apparently, just look at all those threads that argue and wonder about what is right taste etc.

Bonus would be seeing examples from every genre.

420 because that's the amount that used to fill up the bar on MAL. there's another important thing about this number

Well I guess it depends. I have only completed 340 Anime , and I still feel inexperienced. (I only know most mainstream stuff)

I want to say though that only after I had seen around 200 my taste in anime started getting better and more unique. And I started seeing crappy anime for what they are , and wasn't as wow'ed by stuff like gore or edgy anime that pretends to be deep like Mirai Nikki, Tokyo Ghoul etc. (In my opinion)

Taste is something that can either develop or not.
I know people who have seen Steins;Gate , Monster etc. And then say they hated it because it didn't contain any action and felt slow. (Idiots that are watching the wrong genre then)

Some people take more time , some people take less and some will never truly be "experienced" because they allow their personal taste to overshadow critical judgement.

I would say when you can watch an anime that is a totally different genre than what you would normally watch (Watching romance even though you hate it and prefer action) and you can acknowledge that it is good , then you can see yourself as "experienced".

I can confidently say that I'm a experience anime watcher. And its not because of the number of anime that I've watch. It's the variety of different genre that I've experience.

For eg. Mikasa watches 100 anime, but the majority of them is action base anime.

While Annie watches 50 anime, but the difference is that she has watch variety of different genre, therefore she has a broader experience of what the medium has to offer, compare to Mikasa, even though Milasa watches more anime than Annie. So share numbers of anime a person watches doesn't automatically mean that they are experience or not experience.

Quality > quantity

yea but like, mikasa would be really super familiar with action anime while annie would just kinda know a little bit about a lot of different stuff

end of the day i'd say it evens out - if we're talking like same amount of episodes or w/e and not account for who can inherently recollect things better

what is even experience anyway? because in engaging with this line of thought i can't help but ask myself that question. and if it really is all just epeen at the end of the day. Even being able to shoot the shit about more shows is just a way of being able to wave it around more.

All discussions of an individual show end up being subjective opinion sword fights anyway.
