I love Hxh with all my heart but the chimera ant arc is definitely my least favorite too. I binged the show at the speed of light until that arc began. It's not bad by any means, but it stretches itself thin with an exhausting runtime and far too much attention given to characters that barely matter (at least for me)

The only complain majority of the haters have about this arc, is that it's too dragged out. i also felt the same way and I honestly thought chimera ant arc was very OVERRATED, until I came across meruem's character development, his fight v netero, pitou v gon etc.So in the end, even tho it was dragged out making the arc unnecessarily long, it massively paid out at the end

@Ashikhi I don't follow you so not liking hunter x hunter is a tragedy? A tragedy is the like of Titanic or Pearl Harbor not liking something it's inherently inevitable as everyone experience life differently and because of it won't experience the same media the same way. So no idea why you go with the tangent of tragedy but I find it a little hyperbolic on your part regardless that I like Nasuverse or not.

I think you should sleep on it and read the manga of it objectively. I was also not a fan because of the way people hyped it up. I read it a few years later and found it to be much better. Rewatched it 3 years ago with hindsight, REALLY liked it. Read it again recently, loved it.

I think it is the arc with the best HxH moments, but the unecessary length, the boring 1st half and the purposeless side characters do make it the less consistent and maybe worse arc for me. And the narration should have been reduced or just removed in the anime.

@Ki11grave what makes meruem a great villain? the fact that he is bipolar and changes his mind consistently, contradicting himself more often than not

what is the ant in him? they say there is something ant in him, I don't see what is that

plus he has such a weak design, nothing about him screams he is supposed to be the ruler of everything

at one point meruem talks about how weak humans are and pathetic but they are literally what they are because of humans and eat them specifically because they are superior in helping them evolve compared to everyone else, they ate them because they want to become like that

I don't think humans are superior to anything, I'm just talking from ants prospective in the anime

i since the end of the arc greed island when they found out the island Where actually in the real world and they took out magic cards and used it to find kite in real world
why the hell didn't the hunters used magic cards to get rid of the f****** ants instead of being killed, destroyed and really being f***** by the ants
lf they didn't want the anime to continue as a magic one then why in hell did you made greed island in the real world and not just a game and also why using the magic outside the game
that's the main reason for me to say it's an overrated arc and rate the anime 6/10

@DoctorBryce for me, the series went downwards after Heavens Arena. The series had been set up as revolving around the core four characters but then they just go their separate ways and it just loses something

Chimera ant arc was pretty bad. I find The whole concept mid and I also personally dont like the art of the characters from that arc.
The best to me was the spider gang thing where kurapika was super strong and completely useless in the chimera arc (but really anywhere else). I really hope they will bring back the videogame and spider company thing.

Ps: the only thing I really enjoyed from that arc was the dialogue and relationship between the main villain and the little girl throughout the game that they were playing before the final fights. Surely not the animation nor the fights itself. Overrated is a good provocative word.

Very true, and to each their own, a lot of people don't speak up about how the arc got boring at the beginning as they where teleporting to the palace and the only good part being the gon fight, and some other fights, but holistically I can see the point

I am a Completionist.

Chimera arc was cringe since I don't care for "serious" arcs. The Greed Island though was probably the best. I didn't care for "The Spiders" groups either so...
I enjoyed more of the comedy part of this series.

I speed ran the first 75 episodes of Hunter Hunter, which I found to be pretty good. I am now on episode 118 and am yet to see what the hype is all about. The pace is slow, action is a bit boring, there is barely any character growth and the narrator narrates half the episodes. If this is the best Arc in Shonen Anime, then I guess I have outgrown anime.

chunin exam in naruto, can also name few bleach arcs that are better than this - soulreaper arc, aizen arc and whatever is going on now;

even one piece has some arcs I would consider to be more hard hitting than this

@SkyboltSenpai OP actually builds up to something worth spending episodes on. Most of chimera ant arc events ended up being completely irrelevant by the end of the arc.

I honestly thought it went on for too long, but if they'd cut the training sessions (unnecessary since they'd already trained so much in Greed Island), the scenes with some of the lower chimera ants, and parts of the battles, then I think it would've been absolutely brilliant. But, in a way, I also appreciate how long it was because it felt much like a war. Like Tolstoy's War and Peace.
