It wasn't bad, it was very good. But if in this special, animation was "peak" for you, then you probably don't watched a lot of series with really good animation, like Kara no Kyoukai or Kotonoha no Niwa etc.

The animation in Fan Letter is really good and fluid, and the flat art style is a stylistic choice (I’ve seen plenty of other anime that do a similar thing). |

| i watched it myself to see what all this fuss is about and was greatly disappointed. suffice to say i won't be touching any other 1piece media with a 10 foot pole. the fact a mediocre slidwshow showcase like this is no 2 goes to show what a joke this site's rating system really is. |

| Is it messy? Yes. That’s partially due to Megumi Ishitani’s direction and signature style of animation that she works with. What makes it great is that we get to see the One Piece world from the eyes of everyday people. It’s not as grand as Luffy makes it out to be. In fact, it’s downright terrifying at times. It encapsulates how people from different walks of life, backgrounds, ages are still connected because they’ve been affected by the Straw Hats in some capacity. The little girl looked up to Nami because Nami doesn’t have powers. She’s normal, yet is willing to go up against dangerous threats and travel the world. The Marine older brother was inspired by Luffy’s willingness to save Ace by taking care of his younger brother despite them not having the closest relationship. The Marine captain that loved Chopper and his cuteness despite him being a pirate. The powerscalers at the bar debated about Zoro and who the strongest swordsman was. Lastly there was the girl who wanted to see Brook in concert but couldn’t get tickets. It was a masterpiece of an episode. |

@The_Weekly_Jay i appreciate your comment. But how that makes it a masterpiece doesn't reach me. We saw fans before and heard people hype the straw hats. Basically what i hear is, "i saw many like me that look up to them". But overall, there is no real depth to it, maybe the marine guys, and ofc her with a role model. That's why I don't count the others. And the pictures just look poor at times. But that's opinion most likely.

| @AkaiSanji I get where you're coming from. What's considered a "Masterpiece" is ultimately subjective. I, too, use that word sparingly. It loses meaning when it's plastered everywhere. The thing is that, realistically, we just witnessed history. Not so much for One Piece (although it's been on a historic run for a while now), but for Megumi Ishitani. One Piece has had many great directors, but Megumi Ishitani has etched her name in the history books after Fan Letter. That's partially where a chunk of the hype was coming from. Fan Letter is special for all the right reasons. It'd be a while before we get an episode of that caliber again. |
