Very strong start to the series.
How can you keep moving forward if you keep regretting the past?

Very solid first episode, very much enjoyed it. Loved how they wasted no time in transporting Subaru into the fantasy world.

The animation was great, and the voice actors just seemed to fit the character roles perfectly. (I'm watching the dub here)

This episode feels like it was really well paced, I hope they keep up with what they're doing here.

So Subaru revived, ran to the loot house again in a panic, and then promptly forgot about his death and stopped caring. He also didn't care about the witch who entered the shop having the exact same voice as the person who just killed him? It's confusing to imagine someone going through that scenario and not taking every precaution to avoid it, while also employing a sensible level of suspicion. Maybe it will eventually be explained.

Besides that, it seems to be consciously aiming to deconstruct video game isekai, with a main character who has a meta-awareness of the genre and a vaguely sarcastic assortment of characters made to juxtapose Subaru's initial assumptions of the world.

Given how Satella was suddenly perturbed at her own name, Subaru either gets teleported to a completely different universe with only infinitesimal differences when he dies, or his death results in imperfect time travel that corrupts and alters specific details of the past.

Well goddamn, so we Subaru after buying groceries outside of Seven Eleven at night time when suddenly he gets transported into a different world. And in the first episode, we already see him get killed. This might be the most realistic anime ever.

Loved it and all, but I've got a question: Was this first episode 50 minutes long for anyone else as well? Some streaming services I use have an "episode 0" and "episode 1," while others put both episode 0 and 1 together into a 50 minute long episode. Its still the same stuff either way, its just interesting that its listed differently on different streaming sites.

Episode 1 definitely throws you into the world, but for me, the landing was somewhat of dud, especially with regard to the characters. The main character, Subaru Natsuki, begins as a complete blank slate. He is an otaku who has been transported to another world, a pattern we have seen many times before. His initial self-centered, perverse antics is off-putting. We don't get a sense of who he is or why we should support him.

Subaru meets Emilia, but their initial interaction is shallow. He falls in love instantly, but it is more like lust at first sight than a genuine connection. This makes it difficult to care about their budding relationship.

The episode introduces some potentially interesting side characters, such as Satella and the alley thug, but they remain a mystery. We never get a chance to understand their motivations or personalities.

Although this episode set up the premise of Isekai and Subaru's predicament, the lack of depth in the characters, especially Subaru himself, left me feeling disappointed and unsure if I want to see more.

Coming to this anime from a friend recommending it to me, im honestly blown away. This was an outstanding episode. Now ive had my eyes on Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- for some time and i was planning to watch it soon so im glad my friend told me to start it.

Coming to into this anime i expected another basic isekai, though i was dead wrong. This first episode starts off nice and friendly with the main character appearing in a fantasy world and he doesnt know anything. I thought that he would be OP, (as he himself thought aswelll) but it turns out he has no special powers. As this episode goes on we meet a nice girl and her spirit cat.

Suburu follows them trying to help her find something she lost, which is kind of him. And as they follow leads they end up in the slums at a building thats supposed to have what there looking for. Suburu says he will go in first to get it and as he goes in he sees someone dead and in the next second he gets fatally injured along with the girl he was helping who came in after him.

And seconds later hes back were he started. I guess this is gonna be one tragic anime with the main character returning after each death again and again. Im honestly hyped for the next episode as i loved everything about the first.

Started rewatching the first season and the first few minutes already make me question who is more cringey, Subaru from Re:Zero or Kazuma from Konosuba.
I personally think it's Subaru. His motivation for why he does things is even shallower than what Kazuma shows from time to time. He twists things to find any reason to stay near Emilia just because she is pretty. She helps him once and he is already obsessed with her.

Woo. Time for the annual rewatching of this masterpiece of an anime, this time with the directors cut.
THIS is how you do Esekai. No matter how generic your world seems, you can always make it look better than a completely different one. What I love about this episode is the setting up of the characters. You can tell a lot about “Satella” from her actions, and reactions to things this outsider has to say. It also builds a mystery, as to why she would lie about her name. The episode forces you to question everything, which I love. (And it doesn’t straight up spill the answers immediately.) The murder/respawn scene at the end is absolutely horrifying, amazing work from both Subaru and Elsa’s voice actors.

The journey began :)
Good episode, I like that it doesn't exactly start with the death of the protagonist... he just blinks and he's already in the other world hahaha
On top of that, he has a fairly "normal" reaction, I think that more than one would think that he is going to transform into the broken protagonist who gets all the girls, etc. or that it is simply a dream and you take the opportunity to do whatever you want.
There are some things that are clearer with a review, for example: it is quite obvious that Satella is a fake name... the way she says it and how Puck reacts
The only problem I find with this episode is that it ends very suddenly but other than that, it starts off quite well and well... I didn't remember that it had pretty bad CGI haha

PS: I hope to see everything before the 3rd season comes out

PS2: I don't think I can go deep enough into every episode but I will try to
When I'm done re-watching, I'll do my general commentary on the series and then hopefully highlight all the good and bad about it

Re:ZERO kicks off with an intriguing and fresh take on the "isekai" genre, where our protagonist, Subaru Natsuki, is suddenly transported to a strange fantasy world without warning. From the moment Subaru arrives, the episode hooks you with its blend of humor, mystery, and an unexpectedly dark twist that sets the tone for the series.

What stands out immediately is the show's engaging world-building. The fantasy setting is rich with unique elements, from demihuman inhabitants to powerful spiritual magic. Subaru's initial reactions to being thrust into this new world—his confusion, frustration, and comedic attempts to handle things—make for a fun ride while subtly hinting at the deeper mysteries to come. The animation is top-notch, with beautiful visuals and fluid action scenes, while the music perfectly complements the atmosphere.

The episode introduces several memorable characters, each with their own distinct personality. Subaru's interactions with them are both charming and funny, but the narrative takes a darker turn, revealing that this isn't just another lighthearted adventure. Without spoiling anything, the story adds an intriguing twist that sets Re:ZERO apart from typical isekai series, keeping you on the edge of your seat and eager for more.

Overall, Re:ZERO delivers an excellent first episode filled with humor, suspense, and compelling characters. If you enjoy stories with strong world-building, great animation, and an intriguing plot twist, this show is definitely worth checking out!

It’s officially time for the annual rewatch of the greatest show of all time.
- I just LOVE the details this show drops in. You see very simple but awesome things, such the multiple sides of the appa store owner’s personality through the different loop
- Felt is such a cutie
- That second Elsa kill is so much more disturbing than I remember…. poor guy
- damn, the second hand embarrassment of calling her satella goes nuts
- Ending theme hits the nostalgia every time
