A meh ending for an all round meh show.
Once again not a single idea what the shit was going on with how wonky this multiverse plot point was going, the whole relationship dynamic between Yuno and Yukiteru i just couldn't keep up with so their "conclusions" to their stories i just couldn't fully grasp nor really cared at the end. Yukiteru subjecting himself to 10,000 years in a void still crying over what happened and refusing to use his God powers for anything good sounded about right, still felt 0 pity for him and even if the author cut all his limbs off and cast him into an infinitely dark void alone with only his thoughts to go insane too i still wouldn't feel an ounce of pity. The diary changing and Yuno appearing in the post credits with Yukiteru felt so comically funny like a marvel movie skit hinting at a second instalment that i couldn't help but laugh.
Finally i just felt like there were so many unanswered questions and honestly new questions at the end that it just made the show feel incomplete like literally. What is Mur Mur? Was the second world fully destroyed at the end? What happens to the games in the third world then since Deus is aware of the outcome of the second world? Why is Yuno at the end? Why is the first Mur Mur still alive as a keychain on third world Yuno's phone? Was Yuno's backstory literally just the result of bad parenting?
Straight to the point, i thought this show was fucking hands down peak cinema in the first half of the show, or the first 13 episodes. The show hit on such a high note with the dark theming plus the plot seemed sound and made sense at the time with clear end goals but some mystery, Yukiteru and Yuno were great MC's because of their chemistry and characters at the time which could of been furthered if they expanded on. Yukiteru, sure, was annoying SOMETIMES in those first 13 eps but he did some cool shit that made me respect him undoubtly and i'm 100% certain if they just developed him out of being a wuss and more as a normal ass fucking human he would of been an amazing MC.
Sure there were some things i wish were done better, but all round what ever the author was doing in the first half of the show was GOOD it was PERFECT like if they just took what they had and kept going with it, keeping it still semi-grounded and with a coherent plot that didn't seem to repeat it's points, AS WELL as fleshing out the side characters which would've given me a reason to care for them i think the show would've been amazing.
To me episodes 13-15 is when i felt like the show was kinda nose diving. That arc felt so painfully forced imo to attempt to make you dislike Yuno and putting these side characters you barely new into the spotlight for no reason other then to repeat the same character arcs between the MC's but with different coats of paint i.e., Yukiteru shuns Yuno, cries when he realizes he can't do anything without her, Yuno saves him, he thinks he loves her again but unsure rinse repeat. Add on the almost cardboard side character's that had maybe 2-3 episodes of interaction max, NOT character development, just interacting with the MC's, they were some of the most annoying mosquito esc character's and i still believe their entire purpose was to act as a build up for Yukiteru offing them one by one.
Excluding the character's i also thought the story was becoming a bit goofy? Yukiteru turning into a murderer and 180ing his personality for like 2 episodes before still crying like a bitch, he also knows how to shoot a gun and drive a car, Yukiteru's dad betraying him twice and stabbing his mom but he forgives him because he said "I'll changed trust me bro", the world ending with 0 reaction shown from the actual populace beside the cast, Akise walking 10ft without a head, Yuno's sex axe, Minene dies and becomes God, Yuno is already God, the cast fighting in the third world and changing the future of it with 0 consequences, Minene getting shot like 3 times and loosing a hand but still living an extreme 10 minutes. Like i don't know, the show i felt like lost the dark, serious mystery tone it had early on for what felt like, i'm not going to lie, a semi forced multiverse plot point and an astonishing amount of ass pulls.
Like i said a while back, maybe back in 2011 this shit was tuff as fuck with the multiverse i guess being a fresh new concept and i guess the show also popularizing the Yandere genre via Yuno, but in 2025 where i wanna say the multiverse genre been milked harder then the isekai genre, it really feels like nothing new and if anything felt like i was watching an early prototype iteration at a multiverse story that felt kinda forced in last minute.
Going to be quite frank here, i use to think the main protagonist from Re:Creators was THE worst main character i had ever seen and actively brought the show's quality down imo, until i watched this show. Trying to keep this rant to a minimum but, Yukiteru was by far one of the most painful and annoying factor to drag myself through when watching this show and actively hurt my enjoyment watching him especially near the end. Sure his core identity is supposed to be an annoying fuckass weak gremlin that cries 24/7 but has conviction and changes a teeny tiny bit near the end, but god fucking help me man 459 minutes of my life wasted like a gambling addict thinking i'll hit the jackpot next pull (watching 1 more episode hoping they redeem his character). By the end he indefinitely did gain a few new life lessons and he did develop somewhat but i feel like it was so hard to see that development take into fruition because he was always just a whinny bitch in my eyes, and also nearer the end his negatives just heavily outweigh the actual development his character got because there was so little and because it came so late to a point where i just didn't care anymore. Bro also acted like he was a deep character for half the show as well and i think that's what pissed me off as well.
All in all 6/10. Show had an amazing start with what they were portraying, mid way through it started falling off and by the end i lost interest in like 90% of the show cus it felt like they were just doing fucking what ever, with the sole reason of me staying was for Yuno and commitment sake. The ending felt really incomplete with so many unanswered questions and honestly created more questions, second opening is honestly such a let down compared to the first, and finally Yukiteru is a bitch ass MC and might possibly be the worst one i've ever seen in an anime. |
