Great but sad episode, Wolfwood was my favorite character even more than Vash. Poor Milly they were cute together.

Always good to have your main character confronted with hard questions about his motivations and reason for doing anything and have them answered with "I dunno" repeatedly. I absolutely revile this show when its dumb slapstick comedy but I also don't really like it that much when its serious because its fundamentally still quite frivolous and meaningless. There's not even a pretend goal like "find the One Piece" or "defeat Hollows/rescue Rukia from Soul Society" or "find out why people are developing weird super powers in this town" or anything. Vash just exists and the bad guys fight him because he's Vash and that's basically it. Knives is just bad and doesn't like humans because some drunk guy in space was mean to him 150 years ago.

Vash is not understanding that normal people sometimes dont have other options than kill somebody. He is not an ordinary human he is can survive without killing but not others.Wolfwood was strong but he did not the privilege that Vash has and he understand it when he was dying while he did not wanna die. At what point it gonna be okay killing for save someone ? Do he gonna be okay if someone gonna shoot Meryl and Milly to sake to save the other person where is the line for him?

He should understand that normal people don’t have the privilege that he has

The number of people in this thread hating Vash for "corrupting" Wolfwood and leading him to his death is honestly shocking to me.

I think it's fairly clear from following Wolfwood's character that he has a good soul. He's the kind of person that would have loved to be like Vash or Rem. It's the world around him that has corrupted him. He says himself how much he hates this planet. He's never enjoyed killing, but the world has always forced him to.

The big culmination of this is when Wolfwood shoots and kills a child. How can any of you have missed this? The utter remorse and sorrow he feels for shooting a young, impressionable child, compounded by the regret when he learned that it might not have even been necessary, was the straw that broke him. He hates to kill. It's against his nature, but the world has made him refuse his nature and kill anyways.

When he's then asked to kill the only person who has ever exemplified his good nature in the flesh, he comes to a final conflict of self. He can choose to succumb to the world, kill the man who defines his own nature, and kill those who come for him. Instead, however, he chooses the opposite. Even after killing for all his life, even after killing a child, he finally embraces his own nature and genuinely puts his trust into Vash.

When he refuses to kill his teacher, that's not him succumbing to fate like a weakling. That's him finally embracing who he has always wanted to be. He won.

His final confession, to me, reads like this: His only regrets were not living his own way sooner, so that the world could be closer to his peaceful ideal, and that he has to die so soon after finally realizing what it is he wants to be. He's happy to have finally had this victory, but he's sad that he won't go on to see the aftermath. He acknowledges that he has perhaps been doomed from the start. It's a tragedy, but it's bittersweet. His good soul finally shined through, even if only for a moment, even if only at the very end. Wolfwood won.

Wolfwood's backstory, he was an orphan so he dedicated his life to save other children.

He was also part of a conspiracy by Knives but he decided to betray him, I wonder how he met Knives and why agreed to do that, will probably never be explained so it's a shame. And he is dead, pretty sad, he was even better than Vash in my opinion.

The man with the comically long rifle returns and ends killing himself.

Even though it was against his nature, what Nicholas had been doing all his life was what enabled him to survive. Unfortunately the world won't change or adapt to one's principles. It's we who have to adapt to the world. The people around him made him think that he could have it all but he should have trusted his gut.
