The recent seasons have far better quality than the first one you ever watch. You can watch Death Gun arc and then skip straight to Alicization. Ordinal Scale movie is also pretty good but you need the knowledge from Death Gun arc too. There's Mother Rosaria arc which center around Asuna which is kinda necessary since it give her development too but it's not as important as knowing who Sinon is. |

It isn't just a story about Sakura's problems and Shirou's earnest desire to protect her; the truth behind the Grail War is linked to the backstories of multiple characters. The early parts of this film desperately try to play catch-up on some of the cut dialogue and themes that were originally present from the beginning of the route, but there's a feeling of too little, too late. As a result, the resolution ultimately comes off as a little half-baked, despite all the gravitas that this film gives it. On the other hand, every emotional beat involving Sakura lands with perfect precision. I'm glad these films managed to stick the landing with this, because it's almost enough to make me forgive all the other parts of the adaptation that don't quite work. Despite her subdued presence in the first two films, Rin ends up stealing the show here. The last film revealed that Rin and Sakura are actually sisters, and it was nice to see that relationship explored further. Their scenes moved me even more than Shirou's attempts to save Sakura did, because it was cathartic to see selfless acts of sibling love after the horrors Sakura had to put up with from Shinji. If this was just a story about Shirou trying to save Sakura through the power of his romantic love for her, I don't think I would have rooted for Sakura's redemption so earnestly. Even if it's not the complete story, the moments that were adapted bring the text in the visual novel to life with a vividness that no other adaptation of a Fate property has ever achieved. No, this goes even beyond Fate. An author can only dream of having their writing realized through cinema this way. |

And from watching the camrip, it isnt Ilya or Kirei that take a hit from their added scenes.It is the rest of the scenes that suffer, like Shirou's deteriorating mind.. So I dont agree that you dont get enough impact for their last act scenes. |

Iirc it was right after he and then leaves while Shirou cant understand what just happened. There is a weird cut and all. I didnt saw much of the camrip after that except the Rider and Ilya part so I dont know if there was more of that. |

And it ends on a ridiculously sweet note as Rin gives the key of the Tohsaka mansion to Sakura, to Sakura's immense happiness and non-belief that the day where she returns would come. |

| Compared to the Drama CDs we got with UBW, this one is relatively light on new content. This one has two scenes. The first is the trial scene that Rin recapped in the VN, which is exactly as Rin described, just put into dialogue with voice actors saying the lines. There's nothing new in there besides it being an actual scene instead of an off-screen event and the Kajiura OST. Listening to it feels like it's Sudou's way of sneaking in more content from the VN without increasing the movie's runtime since this is all straight from the VN. I've never seen a Drama CD literally adapt content like this one does. This isn't fluff, this is a canon plot-relevant event. The second scene is Rin getting ready to leave for London, so she gives the key of the mansion to Sakura and tells her to take care of it for her. This is a new scene. There should be another Drama CD released with the theatrical release and more with BDs. These may actually have more original content. |

| GoA translation isn't bad, it's just a bit removed from the actual translation bc it's a translation of a translation. You can get the correct gist of what's going on, but most of it isn't a perfect translation. I wouldn't call it 'bad', it's on a similar level to a lot of anime subs imo. Also it hasn't been typo-checked so there is weird phrasing in places. |

The only parts I watched in full are Kyrie Eleison, NLBW and Rin vs Sakura, all just to see how they adapted them. |

Well Kirei's case is easily solved with UBW and/or Fate. He has his plans so Sakura and Zouken must get out of the way. Not sure how much of the dialogue in the fist fight explains his reasons.I can barely make out Ilya saying that she is the big sis so Kirei talking while fighting is beyond me. |
| It's not just his plans, but his motivation and inner conflict. This conflict isn't explored in Fate nearly as much as in HF and it flat out doesn't exist in UBW. When Kirei tells Shirou that he's envious of them for being able to enjoy things he's not able to, it's hard not to go "where did this come from?". The Claudia scene is the only thing in the trilogy pointing at that side of Kirei and it happens right before the climax of the story. When the ANN reviewer says that she feels the Kirei scenes feel a bit too little, too late, I can see where she's coming from. Kirei's presence in this trilogy has been diminished so much, him being the final boss doesn't feel as earned. |
