They sure dragged this last moment of the fight, like just use your power up already! and then he finally used and is also dragged with them just waiting for Toguro to explode embracing that ball xD and Toguro getting some sort of epiphany was so funny.
No idea why this arc is so overrated when this type of plot is Dragon Ball's bread and butter lol and the whole "I got FEELINGS! see MY power-up!" was handled better in Saint Seiya or Sailor Moon :p
This show was better at the beginning.

I didn't expect to enjoy the Yusuke vs Toguro fight! That was epic and also intense. It also deceived you that Yusuke was losing and Toguro would remain alive. That part about the last rei gun where Yusuke couldn't sustain it any longer surprised me! I didn't expect that it was still going. What a twist!

This was such a strange fight. It was definitely really interesting and well executed, and I really enjoyed the ideological differences between Toguro and Yusuke, but Kuwabara's "death" just felt so off putting. It feels like the classic shounen fake-out death, and it was just so unnecessary because Toguro was trying to convince Yusuke to throw away his friends and stuff.

Maybe Kuwabara's actually dead, but there's like a 90% chance he comes back. Maybe the WSJ editors demanded someone "die" to raise the stakes because it felt so out of place in such a well written story. And that's the thing, too, it DOESN'T raise the stakes at all, it really just lowers them. After he "died" I knew no one else would die for the rest of the battle.

When Genkai said they should sacrifice someone so Yusuke could get a rage boost, I thought it would be a classic anime reverse psychology moment, but nah, she really meant that shit.

And it really doesn't work at all. If Yusuke's entire thing is that he wants to protect his friends, his motivation should be based on positive emotions. I thought Genkai's taunting would be just that, taunting to remind Yusuke of his friends, and then Yusuke remembers all the good times he had with them, therefore remembering why he fights.

But nah, it was just something for a super saiyan rage boost. That sort of thing has it's place, but it doesn't fit an ideological battle like this. It's a pretty disappointing stain on what was shaping up to be a really great fight, and it was still really good, it'll just have this (I assume) fake-out death for no fucking reason. Even if it isn't fake it's still a stupid plot point, but it's definitely fake.
