| The only time traps are gay are when shitty LN authors pull the whole "just kidding it was actually a girl the whole time!!" thing and basically create a situation in which all previous appearances, dialogue, and characterization of that character now make 100% no sense and completely ruin everything all for the sake of.... well, I don't really know why. To add another boring girl to the harem without having to come up with another character design? |

| This must be the millionth time somebody made a post about this, so i´ve given it some thought. Yes, a bit, no. All three are valid answers, depending on WHY a certain person is attracted to a character known to be a trap. Some people like to identify themselves with the chracters they like, so If they identify with a trap character who makes obvious advances at other guys, accepting the very unlikely case that a guy could look this convincingly feminine, then they are probably gay. The second group like traps not out of sexual reasons. And I´m including people who not just like them, but have a sexual fetish for them. Fetishes come in all shapes and are rarely directly connected to sexuality. Lace and leather have nothing sexual about them, but somehow it make people go hard, right? Fetishes are manifestations of subconscious wishes that we hold. Sex is often an expression of dominace, since one can take the lead. Hence, being into traps doesnt necessarily need to cater to a purely sexual fantasy, but one of dominance. When you´re fucking a woman, you´re just doing what 98% of all men do. Since you ram into the woman during sex, have more moveability than her and her strong convulsions can make her pretty weak-legged, you're pretty much guaranteed to be taking the lead if you're not a faillure in bed. Nothing special about that. But when you fuck a guy, you're subjugating someone who isn't supposed to like it as much as a woman, simply because of the difference of physical reactions between the female and male bodies. You could say that you're subjugating someone who has no reason to let himself be subjugated, which makes you an Alpha. Since they look like females, you're not distracted by their appearance. In that sense, it's only a bit gay There's also a third scenario,in which people like the character for their personality and how they personally see them, not for fitting into a fetish category. That is the scenario in which you don't accept the authors bullshit attempt at messing with you. "Make a female character, but say it's a guy. People will go crazy" is what I sometimes think they where thinking when they came up with this. A character is just a drawing and a personality when it comes down to it. Design, characterization and presentation are what shape how you relate to them. If a character looks like a seven year old girl, why should I see them as a 35 year old highschool teacher, just because the author says so? Why should I think that Ash is a talented trainer when he and his 4-leagues-veteran-pikachu lose to a fresh-out-of-laboratoy-snivy, owned by a complete n00b? Why should I believe that a character who looks totally feminine and acts feminine is a dude, especially when the series avoid showing not only their crotch (naturally) but also their naked chest? Series like Haganai and UQ Holder have made me even more sceptical of seeing traps as guys. In my eyes, mangaka just make a big laugh out of it for themselves. Wether it's about gender, age or skills of a character, I view them the way I experience them. That experience is mine, and nobody else gets to make that exerience for me, much less interpret it |

Now if the question is whether liking traps 'makes' one gay, that is a different matter. But I still don't think so. gay: of, relating to, or exhibiting sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one's own sex Drawings are not persons so any attraction to them will not define your sexuality unless it happens to align with what you find attractive in real people. Simply liking traps does not make one gay. You don't just become gay like that. If anything being gay might make you like traps, but not the other way round. Being gay can (but doesn't have to) be the reason, but it is never going to be the 'result' of liking traps or anything else. What drawings you fap to doesn't change your sexual orientation, but your sexual orientation might change what you fap to. And in any case unless someone is already knowingly gay and likes traps because of that, I'd say at best you can somehow imply that they are bi-curious in one way or the other by liking traps. In no way does it mean that you don't find yourself attracted to women/female features at all and only sexually care about males (aka homosexuality) if you like explicitly female-looking characters like traps. It is far from gay in the strict sense of the word. So yeah, this whole 'does x make me gay' thing is just stupid when you think about it for a second. |
