| Lain is a classic but with over 404,655 members on MAL I would not count it as a Hidden Gem. Generally, the guideline is around 75k members at least 7.0 rating. It isn't a hard rule but to give a general idea of what to look to be a "hidden" gem. |

| Oh wait, that film was already selected back in February 2017. Didn’t see that until just now. @Brand Do you have some sort of date-ordered/alphabetical list of all the titles that have already been selected as anime of the month or would we have to read through all the topic titles for that? And since Miss Hokusai was already selected, Penguin Highway and Aru Machi Kado no Monogatari were pretty neat. |

| Suggestion themed "Angsty teenagers in Space left on their own devices and slowly going paranoid" 1. 11-nin Iru (They Were Eleven, 1986) 2. Mugen no Ryvius (1999) 11-nin Iru is best explained as simpler, shorter movie version of Mugen no Ryvius which isn't much watched either. Here's a "if you liked A, you liked B" recommendation text: Two psychological mystery sci-fi with great character designs, highly interesting premise, and good direction. Both are textbook definitions of a hidden gem. In both, a group of space academy elite students are forced to survive in a troubled space ship for a long time, and a complex sociogram emerges. Of course a two cours series can develop each character more, but the 90 minute movie does an amazing job in it's limited runtime. Elevator version: two takes on "Lord of the Flies" in space. |

| Was going to suggest Kuragehime / Princess Jellyfish, but then I saw someone commenting about the club guidelines and if I understood them correctly, Kuragehime would have too many members with 85k? :) Surprised it had that many, actually. So instead I would like to suggest Planetes! (which I am equally surprised has LESS than 60k members) One of my favourite anime, an absolute gem. Current MAL score is 8.31. PS: Are movies allowed? Shorts etc? Or do you stick to series? |

| Outstanding kids show with embedded AMVs. Big feels, surreal animation, great voice acting (the VA of the 9 y/o is voice in the manner of and old woman speaking in Japanese). Chibi Maruko-chan: Watashi no Suki na Uta (Chibi Maruko-chan: My Favorite Song, 1992) An outright amazing kids show. Wholesome, creative SoL about a 9 y/o girl's family, art, life decisions, and friendship. Half of the movie are surreal music videos where songs tell part of the story, half is well done drama. No need to watch main series. (7/10) |

| I've never heard anybody talking about this movie before, a happy-go-lucky watch based on recommendations of movies I liked. And it turned out to be a worthy attempt. It wasn't the 80s fantasy trash I expected, but a serious, good movie. Windaria (Once Upon A Time, 1986) Sad and grim-dark fairy tale with strong anti-war message. There's a lot crammed into movie runtime: three (sic!) romances destroyed by war, civilian suffering, the automatisms and political mechanics fueling and sustaining conflicts, futility and destruction of war. A well animated, well directed movie with rich world building (coexisting steam-punk and magic) - unjustly forgotten. [/i](7/10)[/i] |
