Is that the True Ending?

I haven't read the manga yet so I don't know what was filler or not in the whole series.
Is the ending of the original manga truly the same?

With Hanai, Mikoto, Harima, and Eri (etc.) all having unrequited loves that fail?
With Tenma and Karasuma ending up like that?

Well there is some good news and some bad news. Let's start off with the bad news.

In the original School Rumble manga, the ending is exactly the same as the anime. Tenma ends up with Karasuma but Karasuma hasn't been cured of his memory loss. Harima, Eri, Mikoto, and Hanai are left with unrequited love and none of their romantic develops are explored.

The good news is that many of the above romances are developed in the School Rumble Z manga. Now some people do not consider this canon since they claim the story takes place in an alternate universe. However, there is nothing to suggest that the events in this manga universe could not have happened in the original School Rumble universe as well :)

1.) In this alternate universe, Mikoto and Hanai get married <3
School Rumble Z - Chapter 5

2.) There is a sequence showing Harima and Eri in the hospital with a baby. This means that Harima and Eri had a baby and finally ended up together.
School Rumble Z - Final Chapter 10

Note:
Now it can be debatable whether or not the picture of Harima and Eri was a vision of the future or it was just an imaginary thought. Either way, there is nothing to suggest it couldn't happen so the ending is left open for your interpretation. I choose to believe that it is a vision of the future and that Harima and Eri do end up together.

3.) Tenma and Karasuma also end up getting together as well! Karasuma hasn't regained all of his memories but he has regained some of them. Most important of all, he reciprocates Tenma's love and is by her side.

I also wish that the ending was more fleshed out. Sometimes I want to know 100% that a main couple is going to end up together. I get tired of all the open-ended finales of many anime and mangas.

No problem at all! I actually did this research a while back when I saw School Rumble because I felt the same way you did :) I just had to know if Harami would end up with Eri and if Mikoto and Hanai would get together.

I always knew there were subtle hints in the anime, but like I said in my before, sometimes I need concrete evidence ^^

I know right! I also disliked that about the anime where they showed these moments where you weren't sure if it was just an imagination, a dream or reality. Like Karasuma being an alien in the first season. Or their death battle movie, in the second season. Or Hanai stuck in a kite and that shipwreck.

I'm also not a big fan of cliff-hangers, they almost kill the potential of a great ending or just scenery that could of been possible for us to see and enjoy.

Lol, we sound quite alike. I'm also keen to know the whole story of something I've very interested in.

Haha, that really bothered me too. In fact, the anime even managed to fool me into thinking some of the crazy episodes were real. Like the one where Harima and Hanai are battling it out on the school roof. It is fun sometimes but irritating when overused and when it is used to trick you into thinking it's actually real.

While we're on the subject, I think you should know nothing happens with Yakumo :( It is quite sad that her relationship was never explored enough. She sort of just gave on Harima and never found anyone else.

Personally, I quite liked her as a character and I wish we had seen more of her in the anime. It sucks that there can't be two Harami's one for Eri and Yakumo xD You know, I wouldn't be surprised if cloning could happen in a comedy anime like this. And it would be a great way to end it to :D

The only 100% canon couple is Hanai and Mikoto, they're married and she's pregnant. Damn lucky bastard Hanai, Mikoto is the best girl too, better than Yakumo and Eri.

Even if people will say that that School Rumble Z was an alternate/parallel universe, the panels are there whether people like it or not. The author was kind enough to grace HarimaxEri & HanaixMikoto with those stories. Even if people insist that it was not canon, still it was showed that they really ended up together and for that I'm already really thankful. Sensei could have drawn Yakumo and Harima ending up together but no, it had to be Eri, and it's plenty and realistic enough for me.

Harima knew Yakumo loved her but chose to interrupt her confession. Yakumo's unreturned love towards Harima and admiration/rivalry towards Eri were 2 of the highlights of School Rumble for me.

So, the vision of Harima and Eri together in the last chapter of School Rumble Z makes the ending perfect. Yakumo's POV of Harima/Eri relationship and how she realized that Eri is perfect for Harima in Chapter 9 of Z should close all loops. The writer had intended this ending from the beginning of School Rumble.

Also, I think Z is timeskip, not parallel universe.

if people watch again the entire school rumble anime it's obvious that the author always deepen the relationship beetwen harima x eri from season 1, but of course author not want to hurt yakumo fans after many fans ship harima x yakumo too and decided to just call that parallel instead timeskip

I read the 2 new release series of 2016, 2017 from Justice4Harima and I felt so tickled once again everytime it is about Harima and Eri! I agree to Xiosia's comment. Their unique love story makes SR not boring! It reminds me a lot of the Korean movie (original version) My Sassy Girl. The love-quarrel, tsundre-rich girl x delinquent homeless guy relationship that turns out to be a good chemistry! Harima even finds Eri cute at some episodes like in the Lion Dance, in the Temple before ruining the engagement and at the manga when they were at her house doing the Classroom Yearbook. He is just currently inlove with Tenma as all of us have experience that 1st love hurts...if only he opens his heart to Eri's, well Eri has to tell him too about her feelings for him even if it might hurt her in the end...what matters is he would know.

In the new release series of 2017, it seems like Harima is not aware still of Eri's love inspite of all the visitation she does to his workplace and drinking acquaintance invitation. I would be so excited to know how would Harima feels if he finds out that all this time, Eri (the rich girl he disgust for hurting him physically for unkown reason but also the girl who opened his eyes and tried to cure his bruises when he was so down due to painful 1st love experience) has actually secretly loved him but liken to Harima, she has no guts to tell him upfront!

If Harima would just realize that there's someone who will do everything for his love the way he did to Tenma helping her to be with Karasuma...seeing Tenma really happy. If only Harima would know that in strange circumstances from chasing Tenma's love to confess his, he has changed someone's heart of a manhater! Not only that she is dead gorgeous, smart & skillful like him; but she is also very very rich. He won't be a poor man no more and my golly he could even buy the manga company he works at and published all his manga! He will enjoy being with this beautiful lady inside and out...Eri is not just all mean tsundre character anyways and their love-quarrel, love-hate relationship is fun to watch!

Besides, whatever Harima does to confess his love for Tenma, most of the time he just ended up being doing it with Eri. It is just meant to be or destiny. In Lion Dance episode, Karasuma and Tenma were enjoying their date and Harima and Eri were also kinda dating lol watching the movie together, in a restaurant, being together in New Year's day...xoxoxo.

I am so excited for their love story and how she would confess to him. I kinda hope they'll surely ended up together inspite of what Yakumo's fans say of School Rumble Z. I would feel sad too if Harima ended up with Yakumo but I will be happy to see how they ended up together. But what made SR a very interesting romantic anime story is of how Harima and Eri's chemistry and possible romance has started and how circumstances made them be together inspite of all the chasing for Tenma's love. Tenna even knew about Harima's love but has novgreat feeling to give him back at all...besides she has spent more time with Karasuma. Tenma even asked Yakumo about him for Yakumo's. But Yakumo herself thinks that Harima needs someone like Eri. It'll be very uncomfortable to be with the sister of the one that has hurt you for a 1st love experience and to see her (Tenma) very happy with Karasuma every reunion day.

Eri even tried to find him and hasn't changed her feelings for him though she has many other chances to find a better man who is a good man and will love her back.

Can't wait for the next SR grown up series. I don't want my hopes to be high but I wish for Eri ❤️ Harima. This is the 2nd anime I felt great romantic impact after Boys Over Flowers.

as much as I was rooting for Yakumo the new chapters seem to be strongly hinting towards Harima X Eri, as if to make clear whether that last scene of School Rumble Z was real or a character's imagination

Well, I don't mind that route, it's still better than "everybody loses" the anime ended with, just didn't want to see Yakumo sad but now that it's been a long time I'm over it and would appreciate a decent conclusion even if not the one I wanted the most

The first episode the very first one that i saw yakumo and kenji moment where kenjiharimas task to do some job at tenma house, when he helpyakumo about the cat issue. I'm sure something would be predictable will happen about yakumo feeling for kenji, but when i watch the moment about kenji and eri, my thoughts are not just predict, something makes me excited about what would possibly happen, then i read the manga and i just want the moment for kenji and eri, of course i read them all but when i read the moment for kenji and eri that makes me happy and shit like sakuragi love life (slamdunk) thats why i knew the reason why the owner of this manga/anime made for and thatswhy they in up the chapterthey have a baby. Pretty obvious, oviously kenji harima is not for yakumo, for sure not because i support eri for kenji

It has been a long time since I watched the anime "School Rumble" and about 15-16 years when it was aired, but I still want to read and review posts about it (specially Harima and Eri).

It is not that I don't like "Yakumo", (Tenma's younger sister) in fact I loved her character design and traits, but it's bit a difficult for me to imagine how would "Harima" and "Yakumo" feel if they ended up as a couple(keeping in mind that Harima's first love is "Tenma", Yakumo's elder sister).

Anyway, this anime is unique that I love it more than the new animes being released today. Most of today's anime are for fan services and are of the usual and obvious plots.

Lol thats why i didn't bother reading OG School Ruble manga as it was all fun and games until Tenma went to america and all and the end was that all the characters like harima,yakumo,eri,hanai and mikoto were left with unrequited love but School Rumble Z filled that void and i read School rumble Z which was worth it

When I finished this anime, I was wondering why did it end like that, like why Did he not get the girl bro, but when i heard that their was more about this ending I was still curious like how I am supposed to know about this School Rumble Z thing, is it like a book or something and how I am supposed to read or know more about it because today I finished watching the All season plus the Ova of this show and I thought to my self if the ending was supposed to be like that bro, but overall I really enjoyed this anime and how they introduce all the character in this show, for me this show/anime gets a overall 9.9/10 but that’s my opinion ok. so can someone tell me where I am supposed to read or know more about this ending and the school rumble Z thing too.? 2021 10/24/21.

To finally answer this once and for all, there was a scene in the school rumble manga z where we can see a time skip eri and yakumo (who was a manga assistant) interacting and in this scene, Eri told Yakumo about the whereabouts of Harima which Yakumo appeared to be really happy to know.

I believe this is only fair because Yakumo actually helped Eri build her relationship with Harima before. In short, Yakumo may have actually ended up with Harima. Yakumo still got a chance.

He actually had feelings for ERI. There was a scene where 8 years have passed, and Imadori invited Harima and Hanai to a mixer. They didn't accept because of Mikoto and Eri. On the other hand, Eri, Takano, Mikoto had a mixer and talked about it while those boys were listening. In that story obviously pointed out that Harima really now had feelings for Eri. Even the next chapter in the Karaoke.
