Lol, same here, we were never allowed to read manga, according to them its content was of poor quality and your IQ wouldn't go any higher. They have no idea that anime and manga taught me even more morals than friggin' school. -.-

for me, there is no thinking about it. The current education system (in the west) is a complete waste of time. High school had a habit of shoving post-secondary education options down your throat when usually your going to leave college with a degree that won't even get you a job, and you'll be in debt.

Sounds great to me.

There is exceptions, such as trades, where you have a much higher chance of getting jobs after you finish.

When I was a little kid, I watched Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Dragon Ball Z, Hamtaro, and the occasional Yu Yu Hakusho on Toonami. But I wasn't into anime, and had forgotten about it for the longest time. Then, one day, while I was playing a game called Super Smash Flash, I noticed that the playable character Ichigo was from something called Bleach. Scrolling through the channels one Saturday, I saw Bleach on television, and checked it out. I later asked my friends about anime, and they were sceptical, but looked some up. They showed me Fullmetal Alchemist. I started watching anime on TV, first Bleach, and then Kekkaishi, but I thought Kekkaishi was too Japanese. I later gave it another chance and liked it. I saw that the show Durarara!! was going to come on, and once it started airing, I became serious about watching anime. I loved Durarara!!. I abandoned Bleach to an extent after a while due to finding it boring. And here I am now. I still watch anime on Adult Swim/Toonami. I still find Bleach boring. And I still love Durarara!!. But I watch anime in other places as well now. :)

Well, you just said it. It's about time the Western school systems would get adjusted, and when I say adjusted, I mean BIG TIME... It's like working so hard for a degree while knowing it won't get you anywhere coz' it seems all the jobs are taken...

There are a lot of problems in every society. Isn't this kind of off topic? I thought we were supposed to be talking about how we got into anime. Anyways, I posted how I did.

I'm glad my school's not like that lol. One of the librarians at my school is really into anime and manga and actually provided about half of the library's manga out of her own collection. And whenever I have her as a substitute for class we discuss Evangelion and Madoka.

Was always obsessed with Pokemon when I was young, but I don't really consider that anime since it's so adaptable to American audiences.I used to occasionally watch DBZ when at other people's houses since my cable provider didn't have cartoon network, those bastards. That was when I was like 7. Later on in my freshman year of high school my brother introduced me to Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien and then Death Note, or vice versa, and I was instantly sold. Been watching it ever since, with a temporary hiatus every now and then. In the past 2 years I've been watching like crazy though.

As a kid, Dragonball, DBZ, and Pokemon. Then, in high school, Adult Swim started showing anime, and it was Cowboy Bebop that got me to pay attention to anime. But I don't think I really fell in love with it until I saw Clannad: After Story....that's the one that got me hooked....
Oh and during all of this, I saw some Studio Ghibli movies, which while I loved, I don't think were triggering parts of my story, but they did add to the overall experience.

When I was young I didn't have anime channels or any channels, i moved to south korea when i was about 9 years old and all anime there was in korean which i still cant understand. For a couple of years we had cartoon network, but then that channel got dropped or something, so I couldn't really watch anime on TV

Honestly I looked down upon anime watchers for quite a long time, im not very sure the reason for that though, i guess i thought it was childish.

After some time i just grew indifferent to them 'meh let them do whatever they want in their free time'. I've been playing video games since i was maybe 12 years old, and thats what i was mostly doing in my free time, last year the game i devoted tons of time for(about 5000 hours?) became kinda boring for me and I decided to try out anime.

I'm not very sure why I didn't at much younger age, i guess it never occured to me or I didnt think about it that much.

Right now I definitely regret not trying anime when I was younger, because i feel like i could have enjoyed many more less serious animes that I kinda hate now. (im 19 after all).

Anyways, so on my winter vacation, when I sort of became inactive in video gaming, I tried death note. I only heard good things about it everywhere on some gaming forums and people always praised it being good for any audience. I really REALLY do not regret picking death note as my first anime watched ever(well technically my first anime would be sailor moon when I was 5-6 years old?i kinda enjoyed that series actually, brings back good memories) . Death note really made me curious about anime and thats one of the reasons im thankful to the series.

That's when i just asked some people on a forum I have been visting over the years(not mal) it kinda rolled from there. Been watching stuff since last year dec 15ish now and I dont regret one minute of it. Some animes were truly inspirational and i will never forget some of the most touching moments in them.

Naturally, i think i ll get bored of it soon enough, im quite picky and im sure there will be a moment in the future when i ll just run out of animes i can stand watching, but until then i hope i ll have fun.

People constantly posting anime artwork/screencaps and talking about it, and the cute girls really drew me in enough to try it. You pretty much can't spend time in that environment long enough and never end up at least trying anime.

Never watched toonami or even saw anime beyond occasional pokemon episodes on TV when I was younger, and I didn't even know pokemon was from Japan to be honest.

I started back when I was a little kid with Saint Seiya because a local TV channel aired it, then went to DBZ, Card Captor Sakura and Sailor Moon before I even knew what anime was. Then an Anime channel opened up when I was a teenager and started airing Evangelion, Saber Marionette J, Samurai Pizza Cats and other things that are very obscure but not where I live.

Then I joined an internet gaming forum and a local Otaku group that I now hate but they started me into the good shit like Azumange Daioh, Excel Saga, Gundam, etc.

I first watched pokemon but didnt think much of it and dropped it after about 10-20 episodes...

But what really got me into anime was Lucky Star, from KyoAni. Next was K-ON, which introduced me into the world of moe. Then Kanon 2006 pulled me in further.

After that, Seitokai Yakuindomo was next. Back then i was 11, i am 13 now, and in those days ecchi/curses/etc./porn disguested me...well Seitokai Yakuindomo showed me the light...

I am 13 now, and have been a dedicated anime fan for a for over 2 years now, and i love love love anime! I cant remember, though, what i watched after that (at least in chronological order)

When I was a kid, I really loved Digimon Tamers and Cardcaptor Sakura.

Actually, I was initially a fan of the Digimon videogames, that's why I watched Tamers. I REALLY loved it. I let my father record it when it aired and rewatched the episodes at least five times after that. In fact, I wouldn't regret watching it again right now.

Cardcaptor Sakura still holds a very special place in my heart. Every episode was interesting and cute! When I was watching this series, I was also dreaming about being a magical girl! How cool would that be?

Ever since I was pretty young, I thought that anime was awesome.
However, I just got internet access like, 5 years back. That's when I actually started watching anime again, since I have no anime channel here anymore!

When I really discovered what anime was and watched my first non americanized anime was when I discovered Inuyasha. And there was an anime line-up on my favourite channel where I got into Naruto, .hack//sign and Witch hunter Robin.

It was really something ...I got really obsessed with it. Then about a year later I discovered the internet. And after that is history
