So most people hate this because Hagino's sacrifice? People want happy endings not sad endings? I think sad endings are fine too. They give big feelings. Anyway self-sacrifice has big role in manga and I think it is important part of this anime too. Those aliens think that self-sacrifice is the ultimate form of beauty.

This episode was an exemplary metaphor for this anime, "ridiculous but fine."

This anime is a solid 5-6/10..

...If you can get past the illogical behaviour of some of the celestial beings and at times, the main character. Like just don't get me started, there's an invasion happening and you wanna act in a play... WHEN YOU'RE THE COMMANDER OF A BATTLE SHIP NO LESS!! I am sorry but that's too much. Like how she got the rank is beyond me. Her second in command should have got the role not her. It's not the only time she makes absurd calls either.

The relationship with the main character and the commander felt kinda forced so I didn't really feel anything for them but the pay off at the end where she sacrifices herself on the ship, where she probably should have been to begin with was solid so I can't really complain too much there.

There is so much I could rant about this show but I can simply say it's one of the worst written shows I've seen in my life and move on. Also, the visuals aged pretty badly.

The sound and the permanent death were good, but that's it.

Ah bad ending is a worse ending, already have a feeling that this will end like that but it's still hard for me to see it

The offensive against mankind has begun and Tsubael has to protect the most important thing, Hagino's play. I wanted to see the complete play, it would have been the best thing in this series.

And Hagino kills herself in a suicide attack to try to stop the war ending in a tragic end leaving Mari alone and the war continues even 30 years after that.

My opinion? I don't really care to be honest, it was possibly the best ending instead of a wholesome and even more fake thing.

Now with a small review of this series:
I don't remember how I knew about this series but I didn't want to watch it at first because it looked old and cheap with that generic artstyle. I didn't read the description when I started watching it so I didn't know what to expect but the result was lame. I like this concept about falling in love with an alien and what goes with it, the dilemma of the war and those things but here it was mixed with school things making it a Shoujo Ai and didn't do a thing right, it wasn't a good gl, it wasn't a good slice of life, it wasn't a good drama, it wasn't a good action because of this mix they did. The plot is the dumbest thing ever from start to finish and is so slow that almost nothing happened, all of these things about the alien race and the invasion are so irrelevant. I give it a 5/10, I've haven't been this disappointed in a while, my past self was right at avoiding it.

But I think I will read the manga because the description makes it seem a completely different thing than this and is also very short.

Really what a waste.
