A few reasons I don't read manga:

1) Most all of the awesome anime I've seen have manga that are STILL ongoing, even ones from the 90's like Berserk. If you're like me, I can't stand waiting a few years for something to finish, I hate the suspense. I even stopped watching anime like Naruto-Shippuden for the same reason.

2) No color and simple art. I am baffled how this can be nearly as entertaining as watching anime.

3) No epic music to fit the mood (Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal anybody?)

On the other hand, I honestly have very strongly considered reading manga before, and still might some time soon because for every anime I love, someone ALWAYS mentions that the manga is way better story wise, explains more, and has more detail. Also, many anime stop dead in their tracks because they reach the point of the manga and either have to throw fillers in your face, or stop completely, which infuriates me (Claymore, Deadman Wonderland, D. Gray-Man). Also, some anime run out of funds like Kareshi Kanojo No Jijou. Tbh though, if you don't mind waiting each week for manga, then by all means go for it. I'm sure it's as good as they say it is.

1. So you're satisfied with a rushed ending for the anime version?

2. Some manga are colored.

3. You can put your own music, any music that fits the mood. Which I think, is better than anime.

---

I like manga more than anime because I can read at my own pace, and there are things only manga can accomplish. Like unique art styles.

It still varies for me. I most likely watch the anime, then read manga halfway of the series if I'm interested enough. If it still isn't animated(orange, x Shina) then I just read on.

But lately, I've been into manga and going crazy over Medaka Box.

For long running series (bleach) manga. Yet, after reading manga still want to watch anime :)
After watching an anime I sometimes do check/read the manga of it.

I like manga better. It tells the story way better than an anime, and almost always the manga is the original story. But in those cases where the anime is the original, I won't even bother with the manga.

Well, it depends for me.

If I want something shoujo and dramatic.. I would read the manga.
If I want something shounen and action.. I would watch the anime.

Usually I always know the anime version of a series first, coz I'm an avid anime watcher compared to mangas. But if there is a certain anime that I kinda want to know more details about the plot and stuff, I'd definitely go for the manga version next! I do go to mangahere and mangatrader every now and then to check out new thriller @ action @ horror genre manga releases :D

Depends on the series, certain series has good anime adaption which may surpass the manga (Gintama for example) and some anime adaption is very terrible with crappy animation (Naruto). Not many manga is well adapted into anime anyway.

Each has its pros and cons but I kinda prefer Anime more since its more alive.

Can't really say as I've only read like, 1 complete manga series. However, of the one that I've read (Hikaru no Go), I LOVED the manga. The anime was okay, but after reading the manga, I felt it just lacked something. Just the overall tone/feeling was different, and the characters felt slightly deeper, more impressive, relateable, more special in the manga. I love anime though, because the characters really come to life, and having good music brings the scene to life. The only thing I think I'd prefer manga over anime for would be just the anime leaves stuff out, or just doesn't relay the feel of the manga. Course, if the tone of the anime is as good as the tone of the manga, no matter how different it is, I'd watch it, though perhaps as a different series rather than an adaption.
And like the poster above me said, it really depends on the series.

Hmm...now that is a good question. Give me a minute to think this over...

*pauses a minute to think up answer*

For the most part, I prefer the manga adaptation of a franchise over the eventual anime adaptation that always seems to fall short of being truly awesome. A good example of this is the Sora no Otoshimono (manga) being much better than the Heaven's Lost Property (anime) due to several factors:

1. Plot/Story Development is better in the manga (anime does not have as much time to do this sometimes, so they sacrifice things from the original plot to streamline the series)
2. Better Character Interactions/Development takes place (in SnO, the characters interact more and develop as a whole a lot more than what takes place in the HLP anime)
3. It may not be animated or in color, but something about reading a manga engrosses me as a fan much more than watching the anime (exception to this is One Piece, which is awesome to behold animated compared to the manga).

Well, that depends, actually on which anime and which manga...

Let us say, the time I watched Slam Dunk, I was happy. And then I realized that I should read the manga, and when I did, oh boy I was happier. But that doesn't mean I prefer the manga than the anime (but I think I kinda...) but it really depends because some anime LOOKS better than the manga counter part. Ie, Kuroko's Basket, I definitely liked the anime better because the manga art was not really that much appealing but! I liked the manga version of Fushigi Yuugi than the anime must it be because it was more complete and solid but, yeah, if you get what I mean...

I can't get over the fact that manga is usually colorless... and that I'm not seeing the characters in actual motion, hear them, as you can in anime. It's just... not as satisfactory.

I like reading books but that's a totally different thing than manga - for the latter, I'd just prefer it to be in anime form.

Anime is so above manga for me it's not even funny.

I find it difficult to get into mangas, and i'm pretty lazy so i generally go with anime.

Sure it's kinda slower and has more fillers but i can relax more when i watch anime, it requires less attention.

^This. Why watch anime when manga is more convienent, faster, and more often than not, original? I'll only watch anime if there isn't a decent manga version, or if I want to hear music of some sort.

i've always been more into anime than manga, however, over the more recent years I have def. gotten into manga that sum of my fav anime series were adapted from (such as Genshiken, Bakuman, Mouse, Golden Boy, Fruits Basket, etc.) and found the manga is far better! I guess its things like what was dropped/changed due to the time given/permitted in the anime version, and the anime directors own creative decisions/differences to make the story their own in a way, is what makes me enjoy the manga more so at times. Plus, with a lot of anime that just comes to an end (either abruptly or leaves it up in the air) the original manga has so much more to the story that the anime never got to, so again, point goes to manga.

Anime benefit from prettier visuals, colour, nice voice acting and soundtrakcs

While Manga benefit from having a much deeper plot.

In the end I like anime slightly more.

Anime's inherent qualities give it an edge over manga by default (soundtrack, animation, color, voices).

HOWEVER, animes tend to create lots of filler episodes and/or change the story, sometimes drastically and usually to very poor effect. So in general, the manga version of a series is almost always superior to its anime adaptation. Series like Samurai Deeper Kyo, Bastard, and Houshin Engi can definitely testify to this.

The only exception I can think of is with Yu Yu Hakusho.
Salmon is delicious.

And if the voice acting is big part of like gintama -> anime
+ ofc the ones that music etc..

Anything else -> manga.

(But it kinda depends sometimes anime is just done so well that i enjoy watching it rather than reading the manga of it)

I usually prefer the manga, because a lot of stuff is often cut out of the anime. Plus manga is something you can take your time with and it can be relaxing.

Anime is good too, however, and if there is a good anime adaptation of something or a series with no manga at all I will often watch that.

Generally, i prefer manga since it tells the story the author wants to tell.
There are some cases though in which the anime adaption surpasses the manga in my opinion, some examples:

Mushishi - that animation + the OST are still one of the best things i have seen
Nodame Cantabile - Besides the jokes being delivered in a better way than in the manga, to be able to actually hear the music is a huge plus compared to the manga
Kara No Kyoukai - similar to Mushishi, the animation + the OST was a huge addition to the fabulous story

I enjoy both. I like seeing the animated characters in the anime, and I enjoy the music as well. Usually, if a manga series has an animated adaptation I'll watch it, and if the series continues in manga form i'll either start the manga from the beginning if plot details were left out of the anime, or I'll just continue from where the anime left off. For shounen anime/manga, I do like an animated adaptation because there are some fight scenes that take me a while to figure out what happened from the drawing. Anyway, I think they both have their merits and I appreciate them both greatly

Right now manga, but it really depends on my mood. Lately I've just felt like listening to music, so manga is perfect to go along side it. Can read it at my own pace and just relax.

Manga can have a much more detailed story as well, just like reading a book is usually better than a movie since it can fit in more detail and story. of course there are exceptions.

Anime is still great though, sometimes they are even better than the manga and the music and voice acting makes the experience that much better.

Both are great and each have a unique experience.
