So, I'll just assume that you're open for all genres because you didn't specify. Also I'll refrain from recommending classical battle of wits stuff, because you've seen a lot of those and I know others will throw stuff like One Outs at you in no time.
The main thing is if you want intelligent or smart. You say smart, but it sounds like you also mean intelligent in your post. In any case let me recommend some series with the highest average intelligence among cast members and some themes you might enjoy:
Legend of the Galactic Heroes (This comes close to a classical battle of wits series at some points, but it is so much more. Very intelligent, clever and smart protagonists, a lot of great dialogue about every interesting topic you can think of, a lot of goof strategizing in space battles and a lot of wisdom spready by Yang Wenli. if you are not a 2000+ nazi (you didn't specify age in your request) this should be a high priority.
Monster (Also well known and also for a reason. Mature cast, many individuals with high itnelligence and even though there's not much of a direct battle of wits, the whole show is more or less about the MC following the trail of someone, investigating and deducing stuff on the way. Never baseless or overly intuitive.
Himitsu (This is a detective series with a twist. The investigation team can look at at the memories of dead people if their brains are undamaged. Creative use if the premise, always combined with interesting cases and logical deductions. Mostly episodic with some longer arcs (2-4 episodes I think).
Master Keaton (This is probably farthest from your initial request, but I just want to mention it because it's so underwatched and one of my favorites. Taichi Keaton is intelligent, clever and wise, but the series is really more of a slice-of-life. He works for a big insurance company and often his job is to investigate the circumstances of a theft or a murder, sometimes to find something, sometimes to protect someone or something. Sometimes there is no action, just some dialogue about life and stuff, Other episodes focus on his family. Then again he has to survive in the desert or gets kidnapped because of some case. Episodic in nature, this show just has a great main character who can handly any situation, who is very intelligent and reflective and also has the physical skills and the knowledge to back it up. As I said, one of my favorite shows ever. |
