About Black Butler
Produced by A-1 Pictures, “Black Butler” was released in 2008 in Japan. Based on the manga written and illustrated by Yana Toboso, the anime of the same name is directed by Toshiya Shinohara. The series follows the story of the 12 year old head of a noble family, Ciel Phantomhive, and his demon butler Sebastian.
For more information about the series, please visit http://www.funimation.com/blackbutler.
FUNimation Entertainment will begin releasing the 24-episode series in early 2011.

Personally, I'm not thrilled with the idea of Brina Palencia voicing Ciel. I still think Cathy Weseluck would've done a better job. I'll still watch it anyway tho.

Also, who the hell is Corraro?

I don't remember someone like that in the series o.O

I've watched the series like 3-4 times and I don't remember a name even similar to that lol

I'm glad J. Michael Tatum is voicing Sebastian. I like his work.
Hopefully Grell's VA is good. I think he's new to FUNimation.
I wonder why no VA was announced for William T. Spears in this announcement. Maybe they haven't decided or am I just blind and he is up there?

Yeah, there's no English VA for William. Not sure why he's not on the list, and that Corraro thing still puzzles me.

you can now watch the first full subbed episode at funimation that will be on the dvd. i think all the fan sub groups did a great job with the first season. it's neat to see how they compare.

I went and stalked the cast a bit, and Colleen, Micheal, and Todd were some familiar faces. Ouran ftw. xD

But when I saw that there was an English VA on Ciel, I freaked.

In my opinion, I don't want to see what they are going to do to Kuroshitsuji. Kuroshitsuji just seems like one of those anime that can't be dubbed... I kinda just want to crawl in a hole.

I love the above three's work, I mean Todd is amazing, I love him, but I don't know :/ I'm very skeptic, and I'm usually the person that is fine with most dubs.

i fully agree. i loved ouran with the subtitles but i couldn't even finish the first episode with the english cast. i am not happy at all that this is being dubbed. i want the dvd with just the subtitles please. i don't think american actors are going to do this right. maybe if it was a british cast, but no. not a happy bunny at all.

FUNimation always does dual audio to suit your weeaboo needs (So quit f'ing complaining about shows being dubbed, it's not as though you need to watch it. This goes for both of you).

Actually, I was saying that I loved Ouran's dub :D It's one of the only dubs I can stand really...

Perhaps I came off as more angry than I intended. I just can't stand it when people say things like "they shouldn't dub this," because whether they do or not shouldn't matter if you're just going to watch it in Japanese with subtitles anyway. Besides, how can you prefer the Japanese dub when the English one isn't even out? For all you know it could turn out amazing.

True. I guess just haven't really made up my mind on how I feel about the topic. I would like to see what they do with it, but at the same time if they happen to ruin it, it's going to be a bit depressing. Even if I do watch the Japanese subs.

It just hurts a bit when a really amazing anime is ruined by a bad dub.

I'm not either but I can't say i'm shocked that she is. Having met her at a convention she's got a bit of a manly voice. *laughs* I have a hard time believing her playing a woman as a general rule. Is that going to get me lynched...probably. LOL

I'm very excited about J. Michael Tatum I have loved him in everything he's done so far. I think he'll make one hell of a Sebastian. *laughs*

I'm always excited when dubs come out. Mostly because as a half blind dyslexic I can't really read my tv/computer that well. LOL So I only watch my anime in English. I think that will get me lynched too. *laughs* I'm used to it.

I didn't even know. I'm looking forward to this, it's going to be strange seeing this in English! I hope it's going to be released on Region 2 DVD! even if I don't like it, I'll still get it.. and watch the subs.

Corraro...hmm, I think he was the guy at the end of the show working with Lau. The one disguising opium in Funtom's candy wrappers. The one that Ciel put a gun in his mouth.

Bad dubs hurt its true...however since you are planning on buying the set, why not give it a chance? Hell for all you know right now it can turn into another Fullmetal Alchemist. I see both sides here.

1. We all know bad dubs are bad.
2. With dual audio dvd's the problem is solved.

My little point to all this, if you like the show, you buy the show because it allows more companies like Funimation (even though it seems they are the only company able to do anything right now) to bring over more shows that you like.

Yes bad dubs may always still come, but it also means great dubs will also still come.

huh huh heh.

Also, Madam Red (another character that was left out for unknown reasons) will be voiced by Lydia Mackay.

I'm also not thrilled with the list of who is playing who. 'sighs' But like always Funimation finds away to screw up the voice cast one way or the other. (Also I mind you who love the dubs done by Funimation, in the competary if you pay close attention to them.. They lie. A great deal of it's directors are only in it for the money.) 'sighs' Though how it goes over peoples heads is beyond me..

I will still give it a try though.. though my instinics are booming that it will be *thinks of a good word* pretty bad. And I use the word pretty loosely. I agree with Gamer2009 and Ikaofmon. Kuroshitsuji is one of those anime's that should have been left to the subs but greedy Funimation saw that it had such a huge fanservers and grabbed at it. A shame.

Brina shouldn't be playing Ciel, no. I perfer a none scratchy, not to dull and void Ciel thank you. Michael.. on the other hand.. I am not too thrilled with him either. I still do not like how he sounds as Scar and his voice as Raikou in Nabari no Ou was almost kinda like Brina without the scratchiness. Though I can't give a full opinion on Michael, I perfer a none gruff Sebastian.

I also agree with what you are saying WolfWood, but as I said FUNimation one way or the other will find away to screw up the voice cast. I am willing to give it a try but I know for a fact it will end up bad and we will once again be chewing out Funimation for it. But it is always a nice attempt to proove instinics wrong, even if they turn out right.

It does bring our favorite anime over even though it is just to satisfy FUNimation's greed.

I'm still surprised by one thing though. How can people not notice that Funimation directors are lying threw their teeth. I mean really you can tell if you pay close enough attention to how they sound in the compentary. I suppose people are just simple minded and we will leave it at that.

You can own Part One on dvd and blu-ray January 11th.

(You know another funny thing is that I know I am going to get yelled at for this reply one way or the other.. 'shrugs' Remind me to fix it later.. usually the reason I'm yelled at is because I sound confusing.)

And you are an idiot. Here's an idea: if you don't like dubs, don't watch (listen to) them. Dual audio DVDs exist for a goddamn reason. Quit bitching about everything that doesn't even affect you.

Alright, I think this topic is pretty much dead by now. But I think everyone pretty much agrees that the dub is going to be bad.. (and another butchering of a terrific anime), right? Good, because I now have evidence that it will be as bad as we thought.. (after I ranted around a bit and got my emotional level to a more calmer sate (where as not to irritate my cold any further))

In New York Comic-Con, they showed the first episode of Kuroshitsuji in its dub. I got a chance to watch this on youtube (you can find it under Kuroshitsuji Offical Dub), and I must say... we were right to assume it will be bad. Ciel sounds like Miharu - completely dull and void, slightly scratchy, and you can tell it is a woman who his lowering her voice. And Sebastian.. Good lord I don't even want to comment on the upbeat butler.. He doesn't even sound like himself.

Yeah not good... (Oh and before anyone comments on the audio being bad and that you wouldn't no fully if it was good or not until it actually comes out.. I hate to point out but I can weed out background noises, and other nuisences that get in the way. So yes, I actually heard it for what it was.)

So, if anyone knows any place where we can find the dvd with just the subs. I would much apperciate that you tell us.

Now to respond to the rather offending reply from Redfoxoffire. One- Yes it does have an effect on me. When it comes to something I really care for and to hear/see it butchered hurts me deaply, as it did when I got a chance to watch/listen to what is coming for Kuroshitsuji. Also you cannot tell me what to do you hysterical little brat. All you are complaining for is because I yelled about FUNImation being greedy arse-holes--which they are-- and you can't stand for it. Here is something, why don't you go learn what is the difference between good dubbing and bad dubbing.. because I grantee you that FUNimation isn't good with their voice casting (as proved with Kuroshitsuji). So now you see, I just proved you wrong on many things and I can go all day point out your faults but I will not cause then that would bring me down your childish level (not that I don't have a childish level myself).

Yes they are lying, as to what- There like of the anime they are doing. If you can tell lies from truthes you can catch it quite easily. If not, well lets just say you'd need to learn to listen real closely to tell the difference between care and actual care. Even actors fluke up once in awhile.

Yes, I have an odd prediction about those things...'chuckles' Just as I knew my mom wasn't caring twins, and that I figured that Kuroshitsuji would yet again be another bad dub released by FUNimation.

Oh and further proof of their greediness. Not a day after Kuroshitsuji II was released they jumped on it.. before even watching it (and before anyone else had a chance to jump either). 'sighs' I swear is their no limit to how greedy they are.

I swear.. Bandai or someone familar with the style of Kuroshitsuji would have been a better choice. At least then we would know we were getting actors who fit the role, instead of being popular or having just a sexy voice.

Why? What does it matter? You can still enjoy it as much as you ever did in its subbed format. What's the big deal?

Also you cannot tell me what to do you hysterical little brat.

I can make suggestions.

All you are complaining for is because I yelled about FUNImation being greedy arse-holes--which they are-- and you can't stand for it.

Actually, from what I'm seeing, I never once complained about you saying that. Is FUNimation greedy? Maybe. They are a business, after all. But it's this business that actually brings many, many anime series outside of Japan for people like you to be able to buy on DVD. Without companies like them many of us would barely even know what anime is. You should have some respect.

Here is something, why don't you go learn what is the difference between good dubbing and bad dubbing.. because I grantee you that FUNimation isn't good with their voice casting (as proved with Kuroshitsuji).

Oh lol. So a single series proves they can't do dubbing. I think you are the one who needs to learn a thing or two.

So now you see, I just proved you wrong on many things and I can go all day point out your faults but I will not cause then that would bring me down your childish level (not that I don't have a childish level myself).

....You think that was proof? You think you've proven me wrong on anything? Do you even know what it means to prove someone wrong? Because it doesn't look like you do. All you've done is spout nonsense and bias.

In the end, no, I haven't heard Black Butler's dub yet. Who knows? Maybe I'll find it to be bad as well. FUNimation isn't perfect. But at least I know I can judge it with a more open mind.

Yes they are lying, as to what- There like of the anime they are doing. If you can tell lies from truthes you can catch it quite easily. If not, well lets just say you'd need to learn to listen real closely to tell the difference between care and actual care. Even actors fluke up once in awhile.

I don't even know what you're saying anymore.

They're greedy for simulcasting (for free, I might add) the continuation of a series they already own? This must be another word you don't quite understand the meaning of. Is English not your first language?

lol some fans can be so extreme.

I just watched the clips and the only voice I'm not too fond of is Sebastian's. It's a bit too deep and doesn't sound as...elegant as I was expecting. Ciel is perfectly fine, Brina Palencia hardly sounds any different than Sakamoto Maaya imo. Madame Red also has a lovely voice. No comment on the rest.

And the fact that there was no Grell in those clips made me sad. He's my most favorite character in the series and he's being voiced by a completely new guy so I can't even guess how he will sound :<

I take back everything I said. Since I've had time to watch it in english, I'm impressed. Funimation has turned me around on their choices for the VAs.

Brina really does do a good job as Ciel, not to mention, she kinda sounds like Maaya Sakamoto.

And as for Tatum, just wow. I thought it was gonna be some nasally Kyoya nonsense, not that there was anything wrong with Kyoya's voice, (he couldnt be more right for it) but I felt it was wrong for Sebastian to sound like a megane character. Boy, he sold me on his voice acting for the english dub, it rocked, hardcore :D Not to mention the accent, it was fake and all, but damn....read me the phone book in that voice and I'm yours lol

But I'm getting off topic. I got the shiny collector's edition :D

Grell sounds amazing just fyi. Oh my god does he sound amazing, I saw on a youtube video that even Tatum was impressed by him.

Okay thats really off topic.

But, its a good dub. I like it :D
