...sleep together when Momo ended up staying in the same room as him; when the typhoon hit and Momo was depressed about Kairi not turning up on time?
First they cleaned themselves up, then they kissed, followed by them falling on the floor together... and then it was morning. And Momo looked VERY happy with herself when she was holding hands with him on the way to the station.
Until that episode, I liked Momo a lot. I thought it took a lot of guts on her part for her to try to make the relationship with Kairi work; in spite of him seemingly being in love with another woman. I could even understand why she reacted how she did after Kairi left in a taxi with the woman she thought was his true love; no matter what reasons Kairi had.
The mangaka did a wonderful job of not making her look like a slut for switching between Kairi and Toji. Even during the episode in question, the mangaka made sure to force Momo and Toji into a room together after Toji followed; not having Momo invite him on the rebound.
...BUT, for her to have sex with Toji on the same day she had planned to go on a trip with Kairi, and to be all happy about it the next day, left a bad taste in my mouth. I know; she had feelings for both, and she would've still been with Toji/slept with him anyway if not for Sae, but it's not cool to jump into bed with another guy when she had been planning her future with Kairi only a few hours before.
Kairi didn't really have a right to be too angry after the way he'd messed Momo around over his childhood crush for so many weeks, but I was kind of surprised he didn't get angry over being left with used goods. Is it so wrong for the romantic in me to have wanted Momo's first (2D) time to have been with the ever lovable Kairi; her true love? :/
That episode was dissapointing indeed.. extremelly frustrating that she'd leave like that before hearing for explanations. Reminds me of an episode in Bokura ga Ita.
I don't think they slept together. In episode 22 there's a similar situatiion when Touji invites Momo to his room to watch a movie. They end up kissing and slowly falling to the floor but before it can go any further she pushes him off then they both turn away from each other. They looked more like an inexperienced couple still with inhibitions, not like one that's gone all the way previously.
...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.
But that's the problem: she doesn't push him off in the hotel room... at least not in the anime, anyway.
- A hotel room
- The two having showered
- The two being as good as naked; there not being much to remove
- The two being shown kissing; falling to the floor
- The guy mentioning his regret about not having screwed her previously
- And, last but not least, the heroine being ready to throw herself at T in order to forget K
...If you put all these together, then it seems fairly obvious what happened. The only thing that makes me hopeful it didn't is that the anime is an adaptation; meaning the manga might show the scene differently.

They weren't naked. She still had her nightwear on. And where does he mention regret not having sex previously? He mentions how he regrets answering the phone on the day of her birthday and choosing not to go with her which lead to their breakup.
...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.
I meant, 'The two were as good as naked' - I was tired. To put it another way: they were clean and there wasn't much to remove. And, with K not getting in the way/there being no interruptions shown...
...I might be wrong here, but weren't they holding hands the next morning? Something must've have happened to make them get that close again after one night. There's usually a big deal made of physical contact, and it would've been strange for them to just get to that stage again so fast otherwise.
I watched it dubbed, and T said something along the lines of this (I should check, but I'm a lazy sod): "I regret answering the phone that night because, if I hadn't, we wouldn't have stopped, and we'd still be together. And if I'd gone with you..."
There was even a a brief flashback of the two being on the floor together/kissing from when they were about to do it on Momo's birthday previously.
Cell phone rings
Momo: Touji, aren't you going to answer that? It's the third time it's rang.
Touji: No.
Momo: But what if it's something important?
Touji: Listen Momo there's nothing more important to me in the world than being with you right now. Do you realize that to this day I still dream about the night of your birthday party? Every time I think of it I'm overwhelmed with regret. If only I hadn't answered the phone. If only I had chosen to go along with you. Then you and I would have never broken up. I don't want to lose you again.
He looks at her earrings
Touji: You wore these that night.
Momo: Oh, yeah, I can't believe you actually remember. That's so sweet.
Touji: When it comes to you Momo I remember everything.
Momo: Touji...
and that's where they kiss and fall to the floor.
Funny thing I discovered while typing all that and looking back, Touji wasn't the one who answered the phone. It was Momo who answered when Sai called. That dialog mistake aside, from the time they enter the inn to when they exit there was no flashback from her birthday of them on the floor kissing.
It's true they did leave hand in and and she says to herself at that time
"With Touji I can find happiness. He's always taken care of me, always been at my side."
But even then she still has doubts on the train ride back as she thinks
"But am I doing the right thing? The part of me that loved Kairi is telling me not to trust these feelings. I never actually told Kairi that we were breaking up. But I can't hold off on some hope that it will work with him."
With nothing but inferences to go off coupled with her misgivings and how she rejects him in episode 22 makes me think Touji didn't manage to hit all the bases.
But that's just my thoughts on it. As you mentioned there is a manga and it may play out differently.
...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.
On a semi-related, dub note: there was a big error earlier on in the series. When Toji speaks to Momo through the fence, after Sae finally loses interest in him, in the dub he mentions the photos Sae had blackmailed him with. Momo didn't react, and that was down to Momo not being made aware of what happened in the actual story until later - when Toji starts working with her after Kairi goes on a trip to discover himself/find his penis.
The dub was excellent throughout, but there were a few mistakes; like the one you mentioned. And it's most odd that I actually seemingly remembered Toji saying he answered a call made to Momo's phone by her friend!
It seems, because of a combination of my awful memory and how I interpreted what happened that night, I edited the script slightly and chucked in a flashback showing the two kissing on her birthday. (I probably mixed up the placement of an earlier flashback... I was pretty sure a brief flashback got chucked in.)
...But, still, until a manga reader comes in and tells me if it happened differently in the manga, I'm going to stick with my original thoughts. In my mind, a hotel room, no interruptions, little clothing, the right mood and passionate kissing means mating occurred, but I respect you for the innocence of your mind. My brain, sadly, has been twisted by the internet.
About the scene where Momo pushes Toji away when he tries to sex her during a movie: the fact Toji just went for it when there wasn't a romantic mood in the air suggested to me sex had become normal, rather than the two still not having done it... *shrug* Last time he tried, before the hotel drama, had been on Momo's 16th birthday; a special day, so it would've been kind of odd for him to try to take her virginity under such normal circumstances at the second time of asking.
...How about you keep thinking more of Momo than me and I continue praising Kairi for not caring about having used goods? :)
Read the manga and nothing happen. If I remenber correctly they were about to do it, but she was still feeling bad for Kairi, and Touji didn't continue anyfurther because he understood that it was too sudden. On the second scene on the hotel, he tells her that the first time she refused was ok and he understood, but this time tries to force her (i mean he gets a bit agressive), but she starts crying and he changes his mind and let her go.
In summary, nothing happen. She did not had sex with Kouji at all.
The anime give a kind of bittersweet feeling, so I decided to read it, and now I can be happy.
Well, I know this is an old topic, but I just saw the series, and it happened (so sad for me, it's like: I understand your doubts till that moment you decide to fuck and date Touji, but well I forgive her, but still it hurts).
And they do it, I've checked the manga, and they're naked, and she is all shy in the morning. This is printed in the same page Kairi is seated alone in the road. That hurts my feelings T_T.
Look further into the last chapter in mangahere.com and you see that Momo actually turned Touji down and all they did was sleep next to each other. Nothing happened between them.
In the manga, the staging makes you believe they did, only to reveal later that it wasn't the case.
In the anime, because of some kind of censorship (a naked Momo in both scenes), this point is never explained, and they appear to do it, at least to some of us. That faint-hearted choice from the direction made me rate the anime 1 point lower than it should be.
I totally agree with the OP here. Because of this idiotic decision, I even lost any respect I had for the female protagonist. Until I discovered the truth.
Don't be so shy to show us a little skin, for Pete's sake!
The anime leaves it unclear but the manga states clearly that they did. Bad move on her part. She always trusted Toji more and never gave Okayasu much slack which led to her getting in a mess.

The intro to the chapters in the 60s clearly state that he took her first time.
I just hate the relationship between momo and toji. Kairi is more capable than toji and momo ended up betraying him after all that woman just gets on my nerves. I just hope she suffers
I actually hoped Momo and Toji ended up together. Mainly because Toji was blackmailed into breaking up with Momo cause of Sae. From what I read, it should've been Momo x Toji and Kairi x Sae (it seem like it was heading in that direction).
Not to be the bearer of bad news y'all and I know this thread is old but if you read the manga, Momo gets raped by Goro Oji. So neither love interest can take her first time. This is also why I find it insane that sae and Momo ended up friends lol. She also tells Momo that she should be greatful she had a model rape her since he's handsome. Sae literally tells Goro Oji that Momo is a fan and sets him up to think that if he has sex with Momo he will end up with Sae. So sae drugs Momo and then puts her in Goro Ojis car saying she fainted from his presence. Then he drove her unconscious body to a hotel and undressed her while she slept. Later he calls sae saying that Momo is still asleep but Sae confirms that Momo consented so Goro Oji rapes her while she sleeps. Luckily he used a condom but yeah. I was upset since the anime played it down so much. Same with the revenge for Sae cause the love triangle trio set her up to be messed with but Kairi literally gives her to some sadomasochistic kink kiddie rapist on accident. I just... I'm sorry I hate this anime/manga. This story line made me so fucking livid.
I'm sorry, but I'll use capital letters this time, because I feel like a lot of people missed (or will miss) a good manga/anime due to misinformation.
Momo and Touji NEVER HAD SEX. This is revealed in the last volume (Tokyopop / Kodansha Comics, p116).
Momo WAS NOT RAPED. This is revealed in the 13th volume (Tokyopop, p154 ; Kodansha Comics, p152).
Both Gab5 & snotboyslime are WRONG.
If you read something that is later revealed to be false, then it was false all along. (Duh!)
Those guys obviously didn't read until the end.
Also, THERE'S NO NTR (and I'm very touchy about NTR).
Still, I'll spoil three details that might bother you if you're really sensitive.
(The biggest one, apart from the FAKE intercourse and rape aforementioned.)
One of the boys (boy_1) steals a kiss from a sleeping girl (girl_2). The girl he's dating (girl_1) catches him red-handed.
The thing is, boy_1 already warned girl_1 that he was in love with girl_2. Girl_1 knows and is fine with the situtation.
He's ashamed and sorry. She understands and forgives him.
Also, boy_1 is a good guy. You'll forgive him too. I did. ;)
Or you might think this is NTR. Your choice.
(A minor thing, but maybe too much for you.)
One of the girls (girl_2, but let's call her the_demon) seems to engage in prostitution.
This isn't the case. The_demon just charged her "guests" before running away.
Revealed later in the 16th volume (Tokyopop / Kodansha Comics, p130).
(Again, minor but maybe too much for you.)
One the girls (a secondary character, not the_demon) is forced to play in at least one porn movie (maybe more).
Well, this is true. And she's a victim. Just deal with it. Sorry...
I've read the manga in french, english, and japanese.
The english version by Tokyopop is absolutely awful. The translator, Dan Papia, seems to barely understand japanese.
The french version is rather faithful, but contains a few errors.
DON'T JUDGE THE MANGA IF YOU READ IT IN ENGLISH.
If you love romance, I recommend that you give this manga a chance.
It has its share of problems (forced plot, mainly), but really is a page-turner.
SO, STOP SPOILING YOURSELF AND JUST READ IT ALREADY! ;)
(And, if possible, try to avoid the english translation.)
