There are more people watching animes than reading manga as far as I know, and some of the reasons I saw were that animes was colorful and 'vivid' and mangas was 'dull'(boring?) and not colorful. Do you think animes is much more charming and attractive than mangas?

Anime is just easier to consume than manga because with manga you need to read/focus on a page. And of course, as you say, anime is more vivid because of color and animation. So, it's maybe naturally more striking than manga in the biological sense.

Most decent/good manga have a lot of charm going for them because interacting with manga is more intimate and you can sense the storytelling more closely.

Really, it's just subjective. I've seen many cases where anime watchers switched over to almost only consuming manga.

Personally, I think there are more charming anime (on avg?) than manga since anime is composed of so many more components like voice acting, music, film direction ,etc.

Depends on how much passion is put into the anime. From my experience, the art and feel of the manga is better than most adaptations unless the anime is extremely good

I ditched anime for a number of years because manga was much easier for me to consume due to low time commitments. I could read a few pages in the bathroom at work or a chapter on break or a few during lunch. Anime asks 24 minutes of your time, unless you don't mind breaking up an episode across multiple opportunities, which imo kills the experience.

Just to offer another perspective

I honestly tend to see the opposite sentiment a lot where people will say they don't like how the anime looks compared to the manga, most notably pointing out how anime will oftentimes simplify the artwork to be more animation friendly leading to an overall loss of detail for motion clarity. I've recently seen a lot of people nitpicking the Steel Ball Run trailer for this exact reason with people absolutely tearing into Johnny's redesign for the anime saying he doesn't look as good as late Part 7 Araki art. Tbh I think both have their own strengths and weaknesses with presentation as manga can more easily have detailed art due to its static nature, but anime can go all out with the color due to not being predominately a black and white medium.

Yes, but what it mainly depends on is the faithfulness and the love that an adaptation can be "given". An amazing example of this is Mob Psycho, which I truly believe to be the greatest and most consistent anime adaptation to date. Most of us know that ONE is a more or less, a decent artist, so when Bones and staff were able to turn the simplicity of ONE's art into some of the most creatively directed sakuga for anime, it easily outshined the dullness that ONE wasn't able to show in his art, which can create the lacked charm in a medium.

But, to be clear not all animes can achieve this. Which is why it's rare to find animes that blow it's source material completely out the water. In recent time, the most recent ones that I feel could achieve this are Chainsaw man, Yaiba, JJK, Frieren, Takopi, etc.

No not at all, but manga is always going to play second fiddle to Anime in the mainstream size. People would rather watch animation with music and and voice acting. It sadly just can't compete. Which is a shame because manga really does offer something special if you enjoy reading most serious source material.

Anime character designs usually look more appealing than in the manga.

No, not really. Though it depends on the specific artstyle of the manga. Sometimes anime tends to change the designs a bit to make it more attractive (eg- Demon Slayer), though the reverse is rare. But in general, manga is never less charming to me because of anime. It would be true in case of light novels, I can read unadapted light novels just fine, but after watching an anime adaptation of one, it's really hard for me to read their LNs.

On average, the anime tends to be better than the manga because anime has things the manga lacks, like music, colors, actual depiction of movement, etc. But there are also anime which are either bad adaptations or the source material just can't be transitioned well into anime form.

To a lot of people yes I bet that's the case. I love colours but there's a certain artistry in manga. It's mlre ablut composition and layouts and posing and all that rather than colour. It's just different and colours are more appealing to most people

I'm not a big fan of manga, I appreciate them, but the advantage of anime is the sound imo. A good sound also improves poor animations.

depends on the adaptation on how good the manga was. I feel like manga tends to appeal to me more unless the anime is a super stand out adaptation, but I know I'm in the minority as a lot of people seem to only be into anime.

Depends on what their preference of their medium they experience.

As a whole no. In some cases, the anime might have a new art style that makes the manga look less charming, but those are pretty rare.

In the 100+ years we've had the film industry, books have always had their audience.

Don't see any reason why anime / manga's relationship would be different. Some manga are "unadaptable", some will never be picked up and turned into an anime, some will never have a good anime made about them.

Also depends on your time commitment. With manga you set your own pacing, anime you have to sit down and watch someone else essentially tell you the story. Overr the course of a season you might have to wait 13 weeks to get a cour of an anime, or you can pick up the manga and get that story in a single weekend. Depends on your preference.

@valico Oh that makes sense. I didn't consider the commitment cost. I think the convenience of anime vs manga depends. I just believe that doing nothing and staring at a screen is easier than flipping through pages.

Colour, is yeah, a big reason for me. I get that the lack of it, makes manga easier to print/cheaper, though it does take away from the art, in my opinion. Of course, there are trade offs, like manga art being more detailed, however, there are only a few artists, I find, where this really matters.

Regardless, it's rare I will read a manga, over watching the anime. I only do it if the anime leaves it incomplete, there are major story/pacing issues with the anime, or it's of course un-adapted.

In terms of how fast you can get through the story, nah manga is easier to honestly read.

@W3TFT I exclusively read manga on my phone at the time, so that's basically what I was doing haha

"Do you think animes is much more charming and attractive than mangas?"

Not all, they are just different experiences and I prefer manga. Even the anime aspects that are usually mentioned as advantages over manga, they aren't always advantages to me.

But I often feel in the minority with my opinion so maybe, yes, anime are more charming.

I wouldn't say "more attractive" in the case of DS - I think they simply made it more normal, where as the manga has a notably unique art style
