I noticed the the show seemed to have lost its focus on Nico. Since the halfway mark, the episodes appear to focus more on the side characters, and even when they're in a group, Nico doesn't really get to play much of a part. What are your thoughts on this?

Yeah I noticed that as well. Don’t get me wrong, I love this anime. However the loss of focus on Nico is unfortunate because she brings the comedy aspect into the anime series.

it seems like we're getting into more slice of life territory. I don't know if the manga ever carries on with the main story line or not. but yeah. first cour was great, second is pretty bland.

I main, the main problem of the show is stretching out jokes, and that's because they can't stay focused. Losing focus is like their entire thing lol.

Like 90% of this manga are comedy chapters. It's comedy manga, don't expect a lot of plot.

I get that, what I'm referring to is that Nico no longer appears to be the main factor that drives the story

In the first few episodes, the main gag was Nico helping her classmates with her quirky spells, but now, a lot of segments barely even have her in it.

The manga is mostly comedy and even when she’s not the main part she still contributes like turning everyone into girls last episode. The story has progressed pretty far in the manga but it repeats the anime structure over and over.

Few chapters of story -> many chapters of random gags -> few story chapters -> many gag chapters

I think the appeal of witch watch is not just nico and her magic but how all the characters interact with each other. There are still a lot of characters that are not in the anime yet.

I thought that too, kinda feels like Nico has turned into a device to use a spell on characters to get into certain situations without her being heavily involved in it, even if it's just a comedy arc and not a serious one. If it takes the route of only having a focus on her during the more serious stuff which it feels like it might that would be a shame. Though I do like the side cast so not a major issue.

I mean I don't think that this is wrong? I enjoy how anime develops other characters too, not many anime do that. Even student council has personality. I believe that they will develop Nico eventually, not every episode has to be her 100%.

Why a comedy SoL chapterly/episodic anime is doing exactly what is meant to?

i think they’re trying to explore side characters. main characters can get boring. but for some reason they haven’t been circling back to the main cast as much as i would like. i did enjoy the keigo and nemu part but theres a lot of parts that make me feel like theyre wasting time, and i’d rather it be something more entertaining or important to the story/characters. like the donut thing recently.. it was cute but too long

More than Nico, I'd say the focus on the main plot was lost; basically, 3/4 of it was just comedy. Okay that the "comedy" tag is there, but that's even going too far, For someone like me who has never read the manga, I was expecting something more different.

This is like Sket Dance (same author) - there is a plot, but the manga focuses on the characters and the funny moments they experience. The plot itself isn't anything special; it's just a random plot without much depth, so watch it for the comedy.
