@GinInYourJuice The date is pretty arbitrary but it is based on the time the internet became more widely used https://web.archive.org/web/20170512120401/https://www.bls.gov/opub/btn/archive/computer-ownership-up-sharply-in-the-1990s.pdf https://cybercultural.com/p/internet-1997/ |

@traed Millenials are defined as the last generation to have actually memories of the transition between the old and the new millenium so those who were too young to recall New Year's Eve 1999 to New Year's Day 2000 (even if the new millenium technically only began in 2001) are considered a following generation already. You also see it in the chart that outside events and dates are more important in marking the transition from one generation to the other than strictly just putting a neat cut-off every 25-40 years. Also, some older Gen-Z might not have experienced much of the Internet until later as a teen as well |

@traed @Noboru pewresearch.org also said this about the 1996/1997 cutoff point: "Generational cutoff points aren’t an exact science. They should be viewed primarily as tools, allowing for the kinds of analyses detailed above. But their boundaries are not arbitrary. Generations are often considered by their span, but again there is no agreed upon formula for how long that span should be." "Unlike the Boomers, there are no comparably definitive thresholds by which later generational boundaries are defined. But for analytical purposes, we believe 1996 is a meaningful cutoff between Millennials and Gen Z for a number of reasons, including key political, economic and social factors that define the Millennial generation’s formative years." Some of the big factors that define millennials and Gen Z, according to Pew Research: Millennials: - were old enough to understand the historical significance of the 9/11 terrorist attacks - grew up in the shadow of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan - came of age during the internet explosion. Millennials were young kids when the internet really started taking off - at least, a lot of millennials, helped elect the first black president in the U.S. - at least, many millennials, entered the workforce during or after a huge economic recession (The Great Recession) Gen Z: - partly defined by constant connectivity, on-demand entertainment, and high-bandwidth mobile data https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2019/01/17/where-millennials-end-and-generation-z-begins/ It’s kind of surprising to me just how American-focused many of those factors are lol. I was expecting the defining factors to be a bit more ubiquitous. traed said: The date is pretty arbitrary but it is based on the time the internet became more widely used Yep, I do agree that it’s quite arbitrary, and that computer ownership and the whole internet revolution are some of the biggest factors that define millennials. Noboru said: nope, it's based on whether or not someone would be likely to have memories of the New Year's Eve on 1999 and New Year's Day on 2000. Hm, this is the first time I've heard of this being a reason for the cutoff point. Noboru said: Most Millenials also have memories of 9/11 and were old enough to comprehend the significance of that moment, as opposed to someone born from 1997 onwards yep, I think I would have to agree with that. |

@GinInYourJuice: The point is that the name "millennial" is not for nothing. It's the last/youngest generation that can most-likely remember the old millenium. That's all there is to it. |

I was curious if there exists real photographs of 14 year girls. Looked it up. And I found some unbelievably creepy and horrific images. Those real photos of minors are much, much worse than some hentai drawings, that is for sure. It is impossible to put into words how creepy those real children photos look like. It is totally horrific. I strongly suggest you don't look it up. A real photograph of minors is obviously much, much worse than even the most perverted hentai of anime. |
