I can relate to Gen in the anime as I actually have gone solo camping a few times, so I wanting to see if anyone else has done it.
Go read Berserk and One Piece they're the best thing ever

I’ve been camping a couple of times, but not by myself. Not every experience was fun, yet when it is good, it can be amazing.

Is it just me, or does it seem like anime encourage camping quite a lot?
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Used to go with my Family. Done it a few times as an adult. Actually, I love sleeping under the stars since Astronomy is a big hobby of mine. Solo camping fits right into that PERFECTLY.

What is homelessness but an extended solo camping experience?

Did quite a bit of solo camping, but mostly when hitchhiking. The format is quite varied there, since all the necessities are truly bare-bones compared to what I see here. Watching Gen taking out a freaking HAMMER for the pegs was the most Wtf moment for me in the first episode compared to all the other people focusing some silly female character intoduction. Unrealistic or slapdash carrying capacity is what's usually the focus for me in these camping animes. Though, must be noted they aren't hiking a whole lot there so that's a bit excusable then.

I camp by myself now and then, usually at least a couple of times a year for 3-5 nights each trip. I most often camp at state parks though, so I have electricity, and a decent bathroom is a short walk away, so it's not like I'm deep in the wilderness by myself.

I do enjoy camping with others, but there's something really nice about camping alone, too.

Because that's how most people end up missing to be never seen again. If you're determined to do it then have someone know that you're doing it and let them know where the heck you're going. Update your activity and location as often as you can especially if you're at a remote and dangerous place.

"Manga readers are annoying, all they do is complain or spoil the anime we discuss in an anime forum.
They should really do their whining at manga forums.

I haven't. I'll go camping with my old man. But I'm interested in going on my own some day.

i do time to times, like, every 4 or 5 month, but nah, like when yoru camp airing, now this airing, my frequency to go camp increasing, haha
in last 3 month alone, i already go solo 2 times, in the mountain, not trekking, just in the mountain base or forest near the mountain.

I like doing stuff in nature or camping sites like hiking or cooking, the problem I have is that I love a soft bed and toilet, so I hate camping. I do understand the good points, it's just that I can't do it.

I should add I mostly day hike. I did look at camping gear the other day, but I wonder if I can afford it. Problem 1) These days, no functional car, just a scooter. Fine for in-town, but I don't think it will even handle the local mountains. I guess I could rent a car. 2) Back to budgets. Fixed income now ( Thanks to You Know Who!) so besides transport I still have to buy everything. I guess I could get a little at a time. But I swear the stores want to sell huge tents, I had to look hard to find a pup tent like I had as a kid. Problem 3) Sleeping bags cost WHAT?!! Problem 4) I'm not really doing much carrying this stuff, the campsite better be close by, I'm too old now for extensive backpacking. My dream of someday trying to do multiple overnight hikes on the Appalachian Trail? ROFLOL. There are decent campgrounds in the mountains nearby & just outside town, so that part is no problem. Half my area is National Park.
Guess I stick to hiking & see what I can do gradually about camp gear.
